We Are IT Labour Contractors, Not IT Super Power: Javadekar (India)
Outlook Magazine ^ | September 15, 2015

Stressing on the importance of research and development for creating sustainable practices, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar today said that India is not an 'IT-superpower' but an 'IT-labour contractor' as it lacks innovation.

"We say that we are IT-superpower but we are not. We are IT-labour contractors. We have not come up with Facebook, WhatsApp, Google, any new operating system or real new products."

"Indian industries must start investing more in research and development. Unless we research and come out with solutions, we do not get the benefit. Industrial progress should be based on it," the Minister said while speaking at a CII summit on Sustainability.

He said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is the recognition of the power of research and technology.

"PM going to meet Zuckerberg is recognition of power of research and technology," he said, adding that Apple is also an example of sustained efforts for creating something new.

The Minister said that China who is assembling it get very little of the benefit.

"What India and China have been doing all these years to get to this position is copying. Assembling does not give the benefit of research. That is not a sustainable way," he said.

He said Climate Change and Sustainability have become business for western countries as they have developed new technologies for it.

"Green coal technology, climate technology, sustainable development practices, each of them has been developed by somebody else. We are just importing. Unless we make and we have them , we will not progress," he said.

A very perceptive view of things.

From what I’ve encountered, most of ‘em aren’t even good as “labor contractors”. I swear they must have to actively and intentionally try to write some of the incomprehensible, randomly indented, sloppy, buggy code that I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with. Not a hint of proper tradesmanship. They’re the computer equivalent of illegal alien “home depot” workers. :P

Hey 2d.

It’s too bad our leadership doesn’t get this. When our tech companies use H1-Bs to lower labor costs they know they are not hiring innovators, they’re the equivalent of assemblers.

Thanks for you service.

H-1B ping. Let me know if you're not on the list and want to be added (or are and want to be removed).

Ditto pretty much.

I have found a few diamonds, but most of it is rough.

Whether they are good or not does not matter, the result is the same cheaper H1B visa workers cause Americans to lose their jobs.

The H1B visa program is being abused by companies. H1B visa workers were never meant (as it was being sold to the American public) to displace workers only to allow workers with the skills companies needed to work jobs.

But it sure is not panning out this way as I have seen workers being replaced when the American workers have the same or better skills that the H1B workers that are replacing them.

Ever notice how the MSM never brings up the H-1B visa controversy? WaPo, NYT never seem to report on it very often, if ever. H-1B has been around for decades terrorizing IT and other occupations but the Chamber of Chap Labor has paid of the MSM to keep it spiked.

Understood but it wasn’t sold that way. That was my point.

We agree - I just like to avoid talking about H-1B "abuses" because Free Traitors like to pretend the solution to any H-1B problems is simply to enforce the laws as written. The truth, as you and I know, is that the laws were carefully and deceptively written to screw Americans in favor of cheap Third World labor.
