Who can replace Speaker of the House John Boehner, who announced Friday hes quitting? Almost anyone. Maybe even you.
This isnt a comment on the job Representative Boehner has or has not done in his role as leader of his legislative chamber. Its meant to illustrate a little-known fact: Under the Constitution, the speaker does not have to be a member of the House. He or she doesnt have to be an elected lawmaker or government official. The speaker can be an ordinary, private citizen.

I've known about this for years, but in this election cycle it seems like anything is possible.
Ted Cruz as Speaker, anyone?

Walter Williams as Speaker.
Thomas Sowell as Speaker.
Two great candidates because they don’t particularly want it, and are two awesome and smart guys.

I’ve never seen anything from the Founders about this and assume they envisioned a Member serving either in a political or non-political role as was done at the time.
The language they wrote certainly allows for it, but I assume it is just a curiosity.

Louie already said yesterday when he was on Hannity’s radio program that he would not run. Said he burned too many bridges last time around.

Anyone can be Speaker, even a Vice President. Cruz would then be President of the Senate and Speaker of the House. Plus the power behind the throne of the Trump White House.

Jim Thompson for Speaker!
Heck for $5000 we could have registered
him as a candidate for president.

This seems very odd, since its a fact, 435 members could elect the 2nd in line to the Presidency.
