Americans Are Void of Critical Thinking Skills

Never has there been a time in history requiring that an individual be equipped with critical thinking skills more than now. The biggest problem that America is facing today is the inability of the vast majority of the citizenry to think critically. Matt Drudge went so far as to say that Americans are sick. Lack of the ability to think critically is a mental symptom that affects all people regardless of their level of education, economic status, age, race, ethnicity, sex, or political party (although it appears that liberals are more likely to lack such skills). If we are to ever bring America back to the point where she is great again, the majority of the citizens are going to have to acquire and hone critical thinking skills.

Why is it imperative for the citizenry to be able to think critically? Because the mainstream media has abandoned its responsibility of reporting facts in exchange for distracting, distorting, propagandizing and protecting. The public education system also ran by liberals, has dumbed down the quality of education in exchange for explicit (non-age appropriate) sex education and revised negative American history. For these reasons, individuals must master the ability to think critically in order to navigate through the lies and distortions coming from the mainstream media so that we can elect people based on his or her record of accomplishments, stance on important issues, and the substance of his or her rhetoric.

Is it too late for America to recover from it's collective lack of critical thinking skills?

No but we have to get over the apathy about doing what needs to be done. That means changing our whole educational system from the college administrative levels right down to the kindergarten teacher.

After all, with men like Bill Ayers teaching the teachers, its foolish to think we will ever get anything but radical marxist teachers who want to produce drones.

“Is it too late for America to recover from it’s collective lack of critical thinking skills? “

Destroying the public school system alone would eventually do the trick.

Even if the exposure and participation in Christianity and Judaism is not very deep, that exposure forces people to think about some fundamental questions about right and wrong, proper order for society, the nature of oppression, concern for fellow human beings, and whether there is a true God and what he is like. When seeded into a young person’s mind, they have a leg up on critical thinking skills, even though the left squeals at the top of their lungs that Christians are fundamentally stupid. On the contrary, Christians often are armed with knowledge, spiritual strength and a view of the world that exposes the Left for the liars and murderers that they truly are. THAT is why they hate Christians.

Is it too late? There are some examples in the Bible where God allowed the odds to be turned so much away from His people that it was clear the ensuing victory was delivered by God and God alone. Is it too late? I would think that depends on the plans that God has for this nation. Invariably, God used individuals and nations to His glory when their hearts were right and their faith in Him was strong. There are many good people left in our country, but the simple measure of committed church attendance reflects a huge spiritual decline in our nation. Only He knows our plight.

CURE: Start teaching Aristotelian logic.

Require it in High School through University.

Well, look at our great conservative education program.

We don’t have one.

The liberals have the media and the press and the education system.

We have The School Of Hard Knocks. Some people don’t learn the right lessons there.

Yes and no

Yes, if we do nothing

No if we eliminate the government from the school system (NEA, just about every teacher, the administrative process and a myriad of multi-faceted embedded problems)

Surely you jest, knarf

We gott'a start somewhere and it has to be a multi-pronged attack

I'm on the school board and I will lose my marriage (I hope I'm joking) because of all the reading I do here in FR and printing out, and digesting thought to speak out against the rape of America via the rape of children ....

They start in pre-pre K ... about 2 or 3 years old

(Which is weird because there aren't that many jobs to keep all those mama's away from BEING mamas)

Get into a REAL fight ...

They're large, funded, strong, well versed in language and subversive tactics and we're just ordinary people

But we can't sit down

Trump is a shot in the arm ...I've been (in the distant past) a successful in-home, commissioned salesman because of a dynamic and well liked manager ... and I know a good manager when I see one ...

Trump can move people

Unless you don't want to learn to sell

then

You're fired

And don't call me Shirley

The biggest problem that America is facing today is the inability of the vast majority of the citizenry to think critically

Thanks to Kant's and his followers' rejection of reason and reality, which leads to rejection of objectivity, and the triumph of the subjectivistic, emotionalistic, and skeptic mode of thought.

IMHO the ‘dumbing down’ of the population began in 1965 with Lyndon Johnson’s ‘Great Society’.

I just used a math program to solve a problem that no one
would ever want to solve by hand. Technology is only a problem because it is misused. I have students who pick up a calculator even for the most basic math. Our education system is a joke. Not only is the next generation not ready for prime time, they often have delusions of grandeur, and unrealistic expectations of life.

The head line is partially correct, but could be expanded. America has been seduced into elevating feelings and emotions to suppress logic and thinking.

Hollywood has long understood that emotion is the key to entertainment success, they ideas, however toxic, are subordinated to the emotional manipulation of the audience. The Advertising industry has has also latched on to irrational emotional appeal to sell nearly everything. One does not market a perfume as smelling good, but with the association of wealth, glamour and power. The church has also left theology for an emotional appeal. Sermons of substance have been set aside for sermons that entertain and make the congregation feel good.

We are often told that women are more emotional or at least more in touch with their emotions than men. I do not necessarily agree, but women have for millennia increased their status and security by emotionally manipulation rather than force or industry. But, woman are more susceptible to emotional manipulation and so as woman's suffrage introduced a new majority of emotionally driven voters the government policies became less and less rational. Ending poverty was a losers quest, Jesus told us the poor would always be with us, but if felt so good to expand government to have a war on poverty. As family law devolved to oppress men, men became submissive to meeting the emotional needs of women or risk losing their children and forced labor in the form of alimony/maintenance/child support. He only need be accused of emotional abuse and his livelihood could be removed with out recourse.

We lacked more than judgement, we lacked the ability to make our intellect the charioteer that steered our will and passions. Fornication feels so good, yet a reasoned outlook would condemn it as destructive to society and detrimental to family. America has replaced a coherent philosophy the elevated rational thought with few fact and figures to rationalize an emotional tyranny. Hard work feels bad so laziness became a virtue. The fugues of Bach do not inspire sexually provocative dance so turn on the MTV and get down. We abandoned the search for truth, beauty and goodness for the aggrandizement of thrills and feelings. We have become an irrational peoples, void of principles that transcend our own existence. This where existentialism leads, from narcissism to despair.
