Racist is one of those terms that gets thrown around for no good reason. Its almost lost its entire meaning and its pretty worthless as a commentary on someones character.
So when I hear that members of a high school marching band in Texas is being accused of racism, I know the reason for it is going to be pretty stupid. And, surprise surprise, I was not disappointed (sadly).
According to this, students from Atascocita High School were suspended or kicked out of marching band because of a gift they gave to students from Summer Creek High School during a football game on Friday. The article says its a tradition for the two schools to exchange gifts during varsity games to show good sportsmanship. The Atascocita students gave the Summer Creek students a Halloween bucket filled with fruit and candy, including a watermelon, coconut, pineapple, and watermelon-flavored gum. Apparently, because the student population of Summer Creek is 40% black, people took that to mean that the Atascocita students were being racist. Because only black people eat watermelon and pineapple and coconut, dont ya know? No white person in the history of the world has EVER enjoyed eating those fruits. Clearly.
The Atascocita students, being kids with common sense and simply thinking they were giving their rivals a gift in keeping with their sportsmanship tradition, didnt think anything of what theyd given the Summer Creek students. Of course, this being 2015 and racial tensions are at an all-time high thanks to the Cult of Social Justice and the Perpetually Offended Brigade, somebody complained about the inherent microaggressions and acted like the Atascocita kids tried to lynch the Summer Creek kids and barely missed (I dont think a Halloween bucket of candy and fruit would constitute the same level of outrage). So, the Atascocita marching band is out a handful of members for someone taking offense to something that any sane, rational human being that doesnt have a social justice grievance chip on their shoulder wouldnt have ever thought of.
Heres what some of the Atascocita kids said about the controversy
Carolina Andaverde, who plays the flute at Atascocita, said she and her classmates didnt mean anything by it.
We werent being racist towards them. If they took it that way, were sorry. We didnt mean any harm, Andaverde said. Our parents raised us better.
Another Atascocita student, Alyssa Taylor, said that as someone who is mixed race, she didnt see what was wrong with the gift.
I dont take offense to that. How can someone else take offense? Taylor said.
No kidding, Alyssa. How can someone else take offense?
Norwegian.
They should have known, and I hope they did.
I remember a cartoon in National Lampoon decades ago. It had a black sharecropper standing in the watermelon patch outside his shanty. He is looking at a watermelon in his hands and the watermelon is saying, “Let my people go.”
If they call you a racist,
just say, “So what?”
> If I received a gift basket loaded with gefilte fish,
> bagels, matzohs, knishes, etc. I would be very grateful,
Me, too.
And I’m Italian!
:)
if blacks want to claim watermelon as their official fruit can we claim apples?....
I want Pomegranates.
Should have just given them a basket full of bananas.
Fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy was my favorite meal growing up. When my wife and I are on the road, we often stop at a Golden Corral (none in our area). I ALWAYS!!! have the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. Watermelon in the summer was viewed as a big treat and thoroughly enjoyed by everybody I knew in my all-white environment.
When I started reading the jokes about how blacks like fried chicken and watermelon, my response was a puzzled, "I thought everybody like fried chicken and watermelon?" I never met anybody who said they didn't.
Throw a Democrat tactic at the school. Go on strike. The marching band and the football team refuse to show up.
That all sounds delicious and they sound ungrateful.
Lol
The term “racism” was invented by communists. Leon Trotsky was one of the first to use it. When whites engage in favoritism toward other whites (and therefore discrimination against non-whites), its called racism. When other groups engage in favoritism, its called ethnic solidarity. When you buy into these word games, its called being a useful idiot.
Racist is an interesting word, after all who are the real racists? A person that loves their race, is proud of all its accomplishments, wants to live with their own kind and preserve their heritage? Or is a racist someone that is trying to destroy someone’s heritage through mass foreign immigration, diversity, multiculturalism and race mixing?
Next time they can give them Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans: earwax, booger, grass, vomit and rotten eggs. I’m not aware of any “oppressed” group who favors those flavors.
Some people live to be offended. They’ll be offended if you DON’T offend them.
I like fried chicken, blackeyed peas, collards, & watermelon.
“Ice cold watermillion” is what we kids called it, & eating it meant that the family was able to afford it. Then from the backyard cookout we headed for the local Dairy Queen. In an older car that ran like a champ because Dad knew how to maintain it.
Nobody felt “poor”, for some reason.
I like fried chicken too.
When I served in the Navy over half-a-hundred years ago, some of the old-timers called Filipinos pineapples.
Me too. Calling me a racist means nothing. I am not a racist; although I am not politically correct.
I don’t even believe in race as having anything but programmed meaning. Racists are the ones who attach race superior and inferior doctrines to people in order to divide them and keep them separate.
