Now that Putin is leading the way Obama thinks it is safe for him to follow. What in the hell have we been doing the last couple of years? Obama’s rules of engagement stink.

C’mon.
Give the pres a break.

In fishing, there’s catch and release.
There’s GITMO,then there’s the field.

And then there are his brethren.

The Harriers are air support for Marines.

Are they being employed as attack aircraft?

If so, it's the only resources the Pentagon has on station and a sign we have insufficient weapons, men...and possibly will.

This should not be mistaken for a major escalation.

One for hovering buyers: RAF Harrier jump jet that flew over the Falklands is advertised for sale on second-hand car website

‘Complete’ 1976 Hawker Harrier GR3 was also used in Germany and Belize
The plane was last flown in 1990 and has spent the past 22 years in storage
Harrier jets are one of history’s best loved and most recognisable aircraft
They were introduced by the RAF in 1969 and used until the end of 2011

USN was flying the AV-8b off the USS Tarawa (LHA-1) in 1981.

Thy are still effective air support for men on the ground, but not classic "attack" aircraft like the A-4, A-6, FA-18.

Insufficient load and range for that role.

It's more like an AH-64 Apache that carries a couple of bombs.

And Marines love 'em.

6 Harriers, but 22 Ospreys - high speed, long range tilt rotor helicopters.

They can rescue downed pilots, transport special forces, or haul in some of their 1,800 Marines if there is need.

The primary mission of any VMM is lift. That’s what Ospreys do. A reinforced VMM has Harriers temporarily attached for CAS in and around the objective area. That’s what the Harriers are for.

Every time I hear ISIL I want to throw up. But since it is navy.mil, the usage is understandable from the PC standpoint. It’s ISIS and the jerk in the white hut knows it.

I didn’t know that the USN flew Harriers.

Um...perhaps patently obvious in present company, but not one comment addresses the fact that this is the best we can do because we dont have a full-fledged carrier available for Med theater of operations...

Yes, now these aircraft, too, can show their ordinance to the enemy before they drop it into the ocean for a safe landing back on the carrier.
