Cruz is very shrewd. He will not reply in kind, but take the high road. It will pay off in the long run.
If Cruz is going to take the high road, he'll first have to get off the low road. All his drivel about how "gravity" will eventually pull Trump down and then Trump's supporters will just flock to him is stupid and insulting to Trump supporters. Cruz showed poor judgment and to the extent that any mini-war of words exists between he and Trump, he started it.
Cruz started it by disparaging Trump & Carson in private meeting with his sugar daddy rich donors. But it was recorded by someone surreptitiously and it got out.

Or he will allow his super pac to attack trump so it appears he is taking the high road...
Cruz is showing restraint, which is a sign of true strength. Also very presidential.
