A Cruz candidacy would be a “back to the future” re-run of 2012’s Romney’s failure

I’d say....nominate a real conservative, period. I don’t know if we’d win. But...we should do that anyway. We have to start progressing in the war of ideas, even if we lose in the general election. That’s far better than both losing in the general election and not contesting the ideas in any serious way like Romney and McCain.

You’re soccer wife where you get your political opinions? She sounds so smart.

she’s smart enough to know Cruz can’t win, unlike you delusional Trump haters. We will both vote for Cruz if he is on the ballot, but hillary will cream him by 10 points... at least

Evangelicals turned away in large numbers from Romney, not so for Ted Cruz... Better look again and re write this article.

If you read the article, Cruz's problem of repeating 2012 has nothing to do with the Evangelical vote, but everything to do with his inabilty to own the media.

Cruz would never take a fall in a debate with Hillary. Romney just dropped his gloves and took a dive. Just like on "Diggstown".

One picture tells it all...

Totally agree. Cruz is no Romney.

And Hillary is no Obama.

It will be a whole 'nuther ball game.

Not interested. It’s an attempt to rationalize this:

“This is why I’m not bothered by people saying Trump and those who support him aren’t conservatives. “

Your words, and a viewpoint that’s shared by quite a few Trump supporters. Hell, the other day one of them said conservatism doesn’t really exist.

I’m sticking with Constitutional conservatism. If the rest of all this hocus-pocus assuages your conscience, have at it.

What states would Cruz add to Romney’s haul? What’s his path to 270 EV?

Trump has the narrative locked up tight. He OWNS the key. It’s amazing to watch Trump render a sitting president irrelevant on an issue like ISIS/Muslim extremism. The Kimmel interview last night proved it again - Trump gave a very concise lesson on true root cause analysis - something Obama and so many others don’t have a clue about.

Trump? I'll vote for him over Hillary in a heartbeat, but I don't trust him on anything. In office, I think he'll turn into a bombastic Mitch McConnell, making "deals";...the art of the deal.

I too would support Trump over Hillary. I get the sense Trump is almost an old fashioned Democrat. Politically (not personally mind you) he's a bit of a Teddy Roosevelt or JFK type. He loves America and I think he really does want to see America succeed, but he's not the Liberty loving conservative like the founders of this country were.

This country is going downhill so fast I only hope Trump understands how hard we have to put the brakes on if he is in charge. If we don't kill Obamacare, Common Core, and reign in spending we will be telling American children two generations from now about what Freedom means and what America was, and they won't believe us because of what their schoolteachers say. Time will tell.

Ted Cruz could give Patrick Henry a run for his money as to who is more radical and that's why the insiders in Washington hate him. He did one deal and got burned called the John Boehner the lying weasel he is and has not tried to make any deals since. That in my mind says a lot about the character of Ted Cruz.

But what about Trump’s looks? How does you’re wifey feel about that?

Oh, and if trump gets the nomination I’ll vote for him, but not because of his face or the crease in his pants.

Comparing Cruz to Romney is total nonsense. One is a die-hard conservative the other a North Eastern liberal, one a fighter the other a tamed puppy, one runs to the right the other the left, one inspires people to his position the other tries to read the tea leaves and then adopts the people's position.

A better comparison would be Cruz and Reagan. Both Reagan and Cruz have executed campaigns by running to the right, advocating limited government, inspiring social, fiscal and constitutional conservatives. The three legs of Regan's conservative stool are clearly present in the Cruz campaign and were absent in Romney's.

Coach can support Trump, but this comparison is beneath him.

Cruz is the man I want in the White House, I therefore will support him and let the freighted hand-ringers and those too cowardly to fight a bloody battle for their principles - preferring a pragmatic peace with their enemy, talk of getting the moderate and minority vote. Like Reagan we get the votes when we reveal principles that inspire and transcend the color of one's skin.

Cruz 2016!

Everyone else is second best.

This article is exactly right. Cruz will have zero weapons to resist or correct the leftist narrative, which will be a doozey against Cruz.

That's why they destroyed his career over the government shut down and he had to resign in shame. /sarc

Cruz has consistently been able to reach out directly to the American people, as he did with his brilliant use of social media during his filibuster.

Exactly!

This is what I have been saying for a couple of months now.

Like it or not, a Cruz campaign in the general would be business as usual for the media.

This time, though, they would have additional help from the GOPe.

Would Cruz have the conservative vote? Yes but it wouldn’t be enough.

Cruz can’t win because a fair number of independent women are voting for the President they want to be their boyfriend. That is why the heartthrob Rubio is a good choice for the general.
