Humana was a part of Aetna. It merged with Anthem Cigna last fall. It still operates under the name ‘Humana’.

The conglomerate has become the biggest US health insurer.

One of their main competitors is United Health (which, IIRC, is associated with the massive insurance group for older people disguised as AARP).

With our patient population Anthem is actually Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Lots of smaller carriers started using the Cigna provider network last year. Wasn’t so bad when Great West combined with Cigna because Cigna processes their claims but Cigna just acts as a pass through of paperwork with the other companies. Cigna is also going to combining with Blue Cross later this year and it’s going to be a huge mess.

Our docs only deal with mental health and many companies just carve out the benefits to companies which only handle that portion of the coverage. In our patient population Humana mental health used to be through a company called Corp Health except for the military and that’s still through Tricare. Just really all a boondoggle.

No. There is Aetna-Humana.

Then there is Anthem-Cigna.
