Pro-Cruz super PAC uses Confederate flag against Trump
Politico ^ | 02/19/16 | Katie Glueck

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C.-- A super PAC backing Ted Cruz is running robocalls and radio ads that remind voters Donald Trump supported removing the Confederate flag from South Carolina statehouse grounds. "Trump talks about our flag like it's a social disease," intones the spot, which is playing on about 30 radio stations in South Carolina, as well as a few in neighboring states. It includes clips of Trump saying, "Put it in the museum, let it go." "That's Donald Trump supporting Nikki Haley removing the battle flag from the Confederate memorial in Columbia," says the spot, which is paid for by Courageous Conservatives PAC and is part of a $25,000 ad buy. Rick Shaftan, a spokesman for the PAC, said that since "Donald Trump supporters are the most opposed to political correctness," it was a relevant point to make in the hours before the South Carolina primary, where most polls show Trump holding a substantial lead over Cruz. The Cruz campaign has disavowed the spot. "This is from someone not affiliated in any way with our campaign, and it is not something we condone," tweeted Brian Phillips, Cruz's rapid response director. Cruz last summer said he would leave the issue of whether the flag should come down -- which it eventually did in the wake of a shooting at an African American church -- to the people of South Carolina. But the Texas senator ignored reporters who on Friday asked whether he supported that outcome. "His position is the same, this was a decision for state leaders to make," Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said. State Sen. Lee Bright and state Rep. Bill Chumley, who were announced last spring as two of Cruz's state chairs here, were vocal opponents of bringing the flag down. "People like Donald Trump are always butting their noses into other people's business," the ad says, going on to add, "On Saturday, send Donald Trump and his New York values back to Manhattan. Ted Cruz for president. Let's take our country back. Now. Before it's too late."

We both know it takes an obscene amount of money to run for the Presidency. We also know that Trump had the advantage of a very rich and successful father who gave him a running start to his greater riches. I don’t hold that against him. But how does the son of a penniless immigrant like Cruz get his shot at the brass ring without the help and finance of others?

If Trump’s approach is to be the new standard for running for national office, we are limiting the field of future political aspirants to the super-rich.

Do you honestly believe PACs and candidates don’t coordinate? This Super PAC thing is a sham and a way for large corporate donors and lobbyists to hold more power over candidates and politicians. The system is rigged to keep the politicians in power so they can do the donors bidding.

While I don’t agree with him politically, Bernie Sanders is the perfect example of how a politician should be funded. By the people. He has no Super PAC and the smallest donations and largest donor base of any candidate. That’s how everyone should operate. Cruz has LARGE Donors and a SUPER PAC! Those two things= Corruption! No questions asked and you know it too. The only way candidates should be funded is like Bernie Sanders (by the people) or Self-Funded like Trump. Everyone else is bought and paid for and everyone knows it!

Great post. I’ve asked what was Cruz’s public stance when it was being debated?

No one except Trump seems to understand that unless you win the general election, nothing that is said or promised now matters.

What?

Answering a question with another tinfoil question unrelated to the first question is an old Alinsky trick.
The first question was; Do you believe the Confederate Battle Flag and monuments should be removed from public groumds ?

You have not offered any example to your assertion that candidates and PAC groups collude and confer with each other which is against the law. Prove it !

No, I think you pick the person who (1) has the best chance to implement an America first agenda if elected and (2) has the best potential to draw voters from the other side. So far, that seems to be DT on both points.

Sorry. I do not and have not argued that DT is the most philosophically conservative candidate running. Arguably that’s Teddy. My personal reservations about Teddy’s sincerity, ethics, eligibility, and motivation notwithstanding, he has the charisma of a wet mop. He’s also running as a staunch conservative where that point of view will win you maybe 20% of the population. It’s not a conservative country however much we might wish it to be. His ability to build a coalition beyond that 20% who would be inclined to support him offhand is seriously doubtful.

I don’t have to taste poison to know it’s poison. It’s common sense. If you honestly don’t believe PAC’s and candidates coordinate with each other then that’s your choice. I will stand with the silent majority of Middle Class Americans who know a rip off when they see one.

Unlike Trump, who only uses his wealth, lawsuits, bankruptcies, and eminent domain to threaten and screw his enemies.

That's still better than the GOP-e, which spends all its time screwing its "friends".

Actually, it doesn't because its friends are the Dems and the Chamber of Commerce donors.

And internationalists.

but I do kind of think it's stupid for a guy from another state to say that another guy from another state should stay out of yet ANOTHER state's business.

You just unknowingly described one as being "stupid' for supporting the 10th amendment.

Teddy has all the electability of Barry Goldwater, together with all the ethics and charm of Richard Nixon.

Actually it's Drumph that has the lowest favorability ratings and who has the ethics and charm of Nixon.

Screw both of them on this issue plus that slattern Haley

Ones a Cuban Canadian and the other is a Yankee and still another is a Sikh governor

None of them had any skin in this fight and none of them have any balls about it

Expecting any of these folks to have the right mind over southern history is a waste of effort

When I heard Cruz say Rosa Parks to replace Hammie on the 10 bill

I knew he wasn’t one of us on that topic

And Trump...I love the guy but he can’t ever get it....a Manhattan Yankee....Trumpf.......how could he get it.....he’s a Dutchie!

The South loves Trump but he’ll never understand us....just don’t bash us and leave well enough alone

Cruz is no flag supporter though I think one of his campaign folks was

Cruz’s stand was, and is, leave to the state to decide.

And didn't the state decide? I thought the state government voted on it and its' removal was passed. The Cruz ad stated that Trump wished the flag was changed and slammed him for saying that. Thus, Teddy indirectly supports the flag staying put. See the conflict.

Ted Cruz did not put out this ad, but Trumpeteers are up to their old tricks of laying slander on an innocent man.

Right. Pure and innocent as the wind driven snow. Should we all genuflect when we mention St. Ted?
