Suddenly cut off Free Republic (vanity)
myself | myself

Posted on 04/05/2016 2:04:36 AM PDT by Rusty0604

I am unable to access this website with Suddenlink, my WiFi provider. The only way I am accessing it now is on my tablet, I had to turn WiFi off and use AT&T. Anyone else being censored?

I don't think so. I'm currently accessing FR on my computer connected to my phone's mobile hotspot (i.e., an AT&T mobile data connection). When I change back to my computer's normal connection -- Comcast -- I get a server not found message when I go to FR. Change back to mobile hotspot, everything's fine.

Something is afoot. I'm not one to ascribe intent, malignant or otherwise, without some proof, but it's odd that every site except FR works fine on Comcast (and that every site including FR works fine on AT&T).

I CALLED Frontier yesterday couldn’t understand a word this Indian person was saying, I was SCREAMING he’s trying to tell me it wasn’t their fault I wasn’t buying it for a minute!!! I finally hung up on him cause I couldn’t understand him anyway!!! I got onto the site because of DOUGHTY ONE’S caucus thread, it just popped into the search page I clicked on it and it brought me to his caucus thread!! I saw other people having the same problem and managed to solve the DNS problem!!! I feel really bad now because T Mobil is also not working, and many other carriers!!! I mean I was just screaming at this poor guy and their stupid company!!! I really think I need an intervention when it comes to FR, I think I am OUT OF CONTROL!!!!

In these days who knows /s I do not what it is - mostly an inconvenience so I turn to the experts which are legion on FR on most any topic.

I’ve been chatting online with TWC people all morning. They say the website is compromised

I can only access now via ATT on my phone

Very frustrating

Okay, then I misunderstood your original post. FWIW, a “browser hijack” is a legitimate technical term referring to a BHO (Browser Helper Object) that is installed when you run certain software.

If it’s just a Charter website that comes up, change your home page in your browser. Unless they’re using some sort of portal/proxy, none of your personal browsing preferences should change.

209.157.64.200 www.freerepublic.com

Adding that entry to the Hosts file is the simplest way to fix this DNS problem. Thanks for reminding me of it!

This trick will work for Mac or Linux too. Just search your computer to locate the Hosts file and then edit that file to include “209.157.64.200 www.freerepublic.com”. I cleared my browser cache, cookies and history, then closed and restarted the browser. No problem!

Yes...I spoke too soon.

I had the initial problem...it cleared up...and now, it’s back. I’ve cut off Wi-Fi (on phone) and am now on cellular data access.

Thanks,

I did that.. on my laptop, and it now works. Not sure what I will do on my Ipad and phone?

While on-line with TWC, they had me do a “tracert” from the command prompt. It showed that the problem is not happening in the TWC system. The last 6 “hops” are the ones in their system...

The hang up is coming in Hop 13.... who knew there were so many transfers? Every time it gets there, it times out.

They said I should contact the site to let them know.
