Here is another bogus claim that a gun “accidentally went off.”
The claim is wrong.
That is not what happened.
What did happen is that some idiot human being pulled the gun’s trigger.
This moron, who shot and killed his own four-year-old daughter, violated all three of the three most important gun safety rules:
1) Always assume that the gun is loaded.
2) Never point the gun at anyone you don’t intend to shoot.
3) Don’t put your finger on the trigger until you’re ready to shoot.
Gonna try to sell us your list again today?
I once got a letter published in the major local daily taking them to task for calling one cop shooting another with a shotgun in an evidence closet an “accident” (fairly minor as I recall, just a few pellets in the bounce). I politely explained Jeff Cooper’s 4 Rules, showed that the cop holding the weapon had arguably violated three of them, and that the incident was a case of a negligent discharge of a firearm, not an “accidental” one.
I was very pleased and not a little surprised to see it published.
Did I mention that I HATE the term “accidental discharge”? Negligent discharge is the case 99.9% of the time.
19th and early 20th century attitude toward guns. I have had acquaintances who would point there ‘empty’ gun in one’s direction and think it’s funny. Like I said.....In have HAD such acquaintances.
I performed range officer duties at the Cowboy Action shoots my club put on. We were sickeningly SAFE. And that is as it should be. My Dad...a Marine who served in the Solomon Islands etc during WW 2 and was afterwards a NYPD cop for 22 years pounded safety into my head when I was a kid. Not everyone gets that sort of education. They get it from TV and movies.
Nope. Just posting a blog in the blog forum.
Good for you. Words matter.
The POS dad initially blamed it on the 5 year old sibling.
Did I mention dad is a POS?
Depends on who makes the claim. The guy usually says "accidental" and woman says "negligent"....
I’m not sure calling a man a ‘moron’ who made a terrible mistake like this isn’t a bit callous.
As Nuge says, accidental shootings are really negligent shootings.
accidental discharge only applies to senior citizens.
Thinking people say negligent. “Accident” implies something beyond the control of the participant. “Negligent” lays blame.
Oh, dang, LOL! It took me a minute; in my defense, I haven’t had coffee yet.
I am 75 years old and I have lived in houses with guns my entire life. Not one of those many guns ever “went off” ! We must be doing something right.
1, 2, and 3. First things that I learned in Basic Practical.
I had an accidental discharge with a Unique pistol years ago. It was a .22 rimfire, I pulled the slide and loaded a round in the chamber, my finger was OFF the trigger, and I had a slamfire. Scared the you know what out of me!
One other discharge with a rifle, a Uberti 1866 Yellowboy in .38 cal.
A semiwaddcutter bullet caught on the chamber edge and the rifle fired. The action was still open, trigger block was not pressed, and there was no way it could have fired but it did. Almost lost my left eye over that one. I still have the ruptured brass somewhere.
Never trust a firearm!
Should have bought a Glock! Those smart Austrians put the safety on the trigger. The gun won’t go off until you pull the trigger.
Correct, but here is the liberal’s list:
1) Keep the guns locked in a safe
2) Install trigger locks on all guns
3) Never keep the guns and ammunition in the same place
Which makes the owning of a firearm for home defense purposes, completely USELESS.
OK -- the guy who was "playing with a gun" is a "callous moron".
