Refuting the Establishment: It Wasn’t Constitutional Conservatives that Gave Us Trump
Conservative Review ^ | 04/21/16 | Jen Kuznicki

The political establishment on the right is mostly ignorant of the constitutional provisions that enable political stands to be taken, or, they just don’t care. It’s a terrible irony that the Left has been able to own the bubble-gum wrapper version of what our constitutional rights are, and the so-called right sits there delusional about how to respond.

One of the political establishment-types I often read is Peter Wehner. I have written many posts about him, to use him as a perfect example of people who grassroots conservatives know to be following the wrong herd. Wehner does not disappoint, as always, to miss or be blind to, those outside his beltway bubble.

An essay by Wehner appeared in TIME magazine online last month, titled, “The Party of Reagan Is No More.” It is imperative that constitutional conservatives refute such drivel, because to say the party of Reagan is over, on the heels of Nancy Reagan’s death, is an opportunistic political play to erase Reagan’s legacy forever.

Unfortunately, “constitutional conservatives” didn’t give us anyone.

It seems like all the constitutional conservatives around here want to ignore Art. II sec.1 so that their Cubanadian can be President.

Don’t forget a couple of judges in PA and NJ made politically-derived decisions which “found” that Cruz is really an NBC, in defiance of all of English common law and early American jurisprudence and commentary pertaining to the subject.

It was the Republicans in Congress, 99% of whom are not Constitutional conservatives.

I know what natural born citizen means even if those judges don’t.

Barry Soetoro/Barack Hussein Obama should be proof enough of the wisdom of the founders when they tried to prevent him from being President by requiring someone who could only be a US citizen and nothing else.
Born here of citizen parents.
Naturally a US citizen because there is no other possibility.
One cannot be anything else and also be a natural born citizen.

Obama told us he was born a British Subject.

Who believes Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Jay, Monroe, Madison, etc. would have found him to be a natural born citizen?

Usurpation Day, January 20, 2009, happened with the complete cooperation of both parties.
They want the Constitution changed without the hassle of amending the Constitution.
Confuse people about the clear meaning of a three word phrase and voila, every anchor baby and Winston Churchill is eligible.

The bench was the reason the GOP went along with the fig leaf resolution for McCain that was used by the Democrats as cover for Obama.
Jindal, Rubio, Haley and Cruz were all up and comers and the future of the party and ineligible.

In the piece, Wehner once again cites Madison’s compromise incorrectly. Compromise isn’t the synonym of capitulation, and constitutional conservatives did not make that argument.

No, but our Congressional leadership has fully embraced the concept. Dems say compromise but what they mean is total capitulation to their position and the GOP leadership just bows low and takes it. Over, and over, and over again.

Moderation in the face of tyranny is feeding the crocodile that will eat you last, to paraphrase Churchill. To use Madison in this instance ignores the arguments that Madison used to shape the outcome. Madison was a political genius; Wehner, is not. Some conflict is needed to stop bad policy, some confrontation is needed to define your party from the Democrats, and the Republican Party must stand on the principles they used to get elected.

I don't agree with the writer's conclusions but this paragraph is right on!

“Constitutional conservatives” gave us Rand Paul, but no one else was interested because another stupid and ruinous war in the Middle East was more important.

I definitely miss Rand Paul in the debates. He brought a lot to the table.

I’m not even convinced Rand Paul was truly interested in “defending the Constitution,” given his support for amnesty, etc.

Jindal, Rubio, Haley and Cruz were all up and comers and the future of the party and ineligible.

All except Cruz were born on US soil of parents who were here legally. By any reasonable interpretation of the law, they're all NBC.

Rand Paul never supported any form of amnesty; that was always an unfounded slur. He simply didn’t pander on the issue the way others did.

The only way to NATURALLY be a US citizen is when there is no other possibility, born here of citizen parents.
Born with foreign citizenship(s), because of parentage or place negates natural born citizen status.

I missed that part...oh here it is:

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, whose was born on US soil and whose parents were here legally at the time of their birth, or a Citizen of the United States time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President

No, actually, Rand Paul ran away from the amnesty issue. He was no defender of the Constitution or US sovereignty.
