Vending machines and food might conjure up some negative images:
-Shaking the machine when your potato chips get stuck.
-Not the best options for dining.
CBS 2s Vince Gerasole reports thats all changing. He paid a visit to a vending machine trade show in Chicago.
Hows this for a treat? A TCBY yogurt with Oreo crumbs. It starts with a touch screen where you choose sizes, flavors and toppings. No, an army of oompa loompas isnt inside the big box. Its a robotic assembly line.
Meanwhile, Matty Castellano is selling fresh pizza from a vending machine....

Coming soon... Mickey D’s!!!!
How about a machine you could put a quarter in (if that much) and get a new president out of??? And for another quarter you could get an airplane ticket to send him to the White House....oh, just always dreaming.
The way things are going I’m, going to want a “Didn’t do it myself nuffins” machine
How about a machine that if you swipe a credit card you can rent a movie for a day and it will only cost a couple dollars... I think a thing like that would put video stores right out of business... But that could never happen...
Either way, the Mafia will still own it, at least on the east coast :)
Believe me, I had a candy/soda/video game route when I was young.
No picnic dealing with those guys.
I used to hang around those stores for hours lol, looking for just the right movie.
thinking back, the guy probably thought I was nuts!
No, it’s that way in the Midwest too.
Really? I don’t know any of the guys outside of NY/NJ.
When the heck did they head out there? :)
I did too...lol I repaired redbox machines for 8 years and I could tell you some stories about the people that use them... You weren’t nuts...
Like Al Capone?
Nah, you’re not alone. I used to be at Blockbuster the same way and my older cousin would go to “another” video store...
I wonder sometime if the mafia is really completely out of Vegas.
Or Atlantic City.
I know in the boroughs the Mafia’s gotten a lot more quiet, but they still own all the delis and wash money through those and pizzerias and restaurants and laundromats, etc., regardless of whose name is on the title.
And there are illegal gambling dens in Brooklyn.
oh yeah!! That would be the Midwest!
I ate a few times in Monte’s in Brooklyn where he ate.
Turned out the owner’s mother had a crush on my father in 1933 so the bill was waived :)
Frank Balisterri the head of the Milwaukee Mob controlled the vending racket in South East wisconsin. Along with taking part in the skim in vegas
Now I spend hours on Amazon prime deciding :)
what’s with this charging up to TEN dollars for a video that was in the theaters.
It cost less at the matinee here than 10 bucks.
I bet!
Would love to hear a story or two if you ever have the time.
bet they’re crazy :)
Wow. I had no idea.
On the east coast, there were paesani in positions of power, but in those states there probably weren’t many at all, so the locals had to get big time kickbacks.
Like when that guy in Casino says that you people think you’re home, but you’re a long way from home.
A lot of people are opting to watch movies at home, because they have $10 grand to $20 grand or more theatres installed and it gives almost as good a show as what you pay in the theatres without the hassle.
Robots are stealing my luggage.
