Talk about something to muse about.
Maybe the chief reason that Seattle, etc. doesn’t have ministries like this, is because they would be roundly hated and castigated. “What do you mean, Jesus matters? You’re discriminating against the irreligious! (Nope, we’re telling them why Jesus matters. Seeing salvation needs a savior, get it?)”
It is a microcosm of what people do with God. If one is bent enough on hating God, God then honors one’s wish for Him to be gone. Of course the result is devilish, but hey one got what one wished for.
He’s right about Nebraska. Coming into downtown Omaha every day, it hits me smack in the eye, the Salvation Army and the Lutheran Family Services (and there are doubtless more). I’ve still been accosted by the occasional lone bum, but 99% of them know where they can go to get help.
(And I don’t literally mean to be gone, which is impossible, but to be suppressed and grieved.)
I heard that a lot of homeless get helped real good in Omaha. A guy I sent there was homeless and came up into top form! I would imagine most of the bums are hobos passing through.
