The Soviets also had special stores and living ares for the rulers. Come to think of it monarchies had the same kind of deal. The more change the more they stay the same. Or “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss”.

“Coming to America if Queen Criminal Clintoon becomes our potus!”

Highly unlikely. Think Qaddhafi 2.0. The fat, squishy federal bureaucrats sucking on Hillary’s teat don’t have the firepower or training to take on the 101st Airborne or the 2ndMarDiv.

If you have money. That’s the rub.

"...You might think so, but then how do you explain North Korea?..."

North Korea will similarly not stand the test of time, like other totalitarian states.

The hotel rooms have electricity on a timer on the wall. You twist it all the way around and the electricity stays on til the timer runs out.

It wasn't too many decades ago that you could see those in the poorer parts of London.

When Chelsea Clinton married the son of a very wealthy stock trader/fund manager, it was just another example of money marrying power. Those with money rarely run for office, like Trump, but their children often mingle and marry with those who have the political power.
The problem with socialism / communism is that it uses the force of the state to protect existing businesses and politically connected business, preventing new rich people from developing and, unfortunately, money concentrating with those with power through corruption/bribery because the state is so large that oversight is almost impossible and the opportunities for bribery are so rampant.
Thus when the state is large, money and power tend to coalesce in one elite. In an open, democratic society, there is economic churn and political churn that prevents such reinforcement of an elite “class”.

The rich will always do well.

It is the idiots that are poor and vote poorly for socialism that do poorly; poor decision making is why they vote for socialism in the first place.

Lived in Venezuela in the days before Chavez and Maduro. It was good and it was corrupt. Oddly no more corrupt than our present Federal Government in Washington DC.

The corruption lead to the election of Chavez. The people were disgusted with the prior government and in their ignorance elected Chavez. He actually did win this election. All elections after that were a fraud. It was fixed.

When I lived in Venezuela I could go to the grocery store and buy anything I wanted. Those stores are today bare of goods.

This nation sits on the greatest oil reserves in the world. Its oil production declines month by month. Those that know how to produce this oil have left. They had valuable skills that could be utilized in other nations, they left.

Venezuela is now a failed nation state.
