Snopes is run by Barbara and David Mikkelson, a couple from California who married after meeting on the newsgroup alt.folklore.urban. The couple also founded the San Fernando Valley Folklore Society, and were credited as the owners of the site until 2005. I see Snopes do this all the time. They’ll label something “mostly false” based solely on one false statement in a story, while all the rest are true. Snopes is a liberal outfit, pretty much like Politifact.
