ESPN has morphed into a total left-wing MSNBC version of sports. It started in the 90s, with Dan Patrick, Craig Kilborne, and Keith Olbermann when sportscasters became sarcastic and smart-alecky.

I read an article recently that cord-cutting has led cable providers to come up with stripped down packages which leave out ESPN, and ESPN sued Verizon over it, which was recently settled (I don’t how it came out though).
