Something neither the establishment, the media, and many people never realized was that there never was a hierarchical Tea Party organization. It was the reason it was such a success.
Hierarchical organizations, government, political, business, ngo, etc. *cannot* interface with non-hierarchical groups.
Thus they cannot control, subvert, corrupt, threaten or even influence them. They cannot wheel and deal with its leaders, because it has none. They cannot even *describe* it.
So what happened to the Tea Party? It is still there, but it is invisible. If Mr. Trump can carry out a purge of the RINOs, corporatists, GOP-e, and other Republican liberals and internationalists from the Republican party, it will be the ultimate Tea Party victory.
Likewise, if Mr. Trump and slash the size, power, and expense of government, it will be a huge Tea Party victory.
The Tea Party, to me, is about what we believe in, and what we’re willing to do for conservatism. That was organization enough. Phooey on the hacksters.
This article should be read by everybody who ever went to a Tea Party event or otherwise aligned with what was the Tea Party Movement.
The author explains how that movement was exploited by con men.
“Well, sorry, but Politico got this one right.”
You’re right. This article comports perfectly with my experience. Though it focuses on the Tea Party, there are PACs on both left and right that exist primarily for their organizer’s benefit.
My political interests are not stereotypically conservative. Because of that, and the fact that my deceased father supported Democrats and used my address in his final years, I’m on all sorts of mailing lists and telephone lists. However, I’m old enough to be very cynical about politics, so I don’t easily fall for phonies. And, in my estimation, the two groups that are most exploited by phonies are Tea Party supporters and those who are concerned about veterans.
It was written by some lib.
Just consider the source before taking it too seriously.
“The Tea Party won. And now they hate their biggest electoral victory.”
The Tea Party made some good inroads into state legislatures. Nothing close to a majority anywhere as far as I know. But they had enough victories that they actually influenced some policy in some states.
The Tea Party elected some folks to Congress. Maybe 50-75 out of 425 could be fairly considered Tea Partiers who vote that way when it matters. They did have some influence on some votes. Enough to drive the ruling class batty. But again, never close to a majority.
The Tea Party has never even sniffed influence in a Presidential election.
I would like the Tea Party influence to be much greater. But in my opinion, “winning” means being able to dictate policy most of the time. By that measure, progressives are the winners—they have dictated policy nationally since the 1930’s. The Tea Party has had growing influence for eight years; but that growth ended this year. In fact, I think a a significant number of good Tea Party legislators are going to lose office this year. Personalities prevail over policy this year. And that will be a big loss for America.
We’ll see how things sort themselves out. My prayer is for a Trump victory that does not bring a wave of Tea Party losses in the legislatures and that he and his advisors take a wrecking ball to D.C. That would be a victory for America, not just the Tea Party.
I suggest reviewing CNBC’s Rick Santelli’s rants from the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade, since it was he that coined the term Tea Party in the current context. He ranted about bank bailouts, the moral hazard of paying people out of their defaulted mortgages, and Bernanke and the Federal Reserve among other things. Nothing has changed except it is all now much worse.
-—Santelli concluded by reading a quotation from Thomas Jefferson, I have no fear that the result of our experiment will be that men may be trusted to govern themselves without a master. I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country. I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.-— See http://www.breitbart.com/video/2015/02/19/santelli-remembers-famous-tea-party-rant-6-years-later/
We hang on by a thread in Buffalo.
The national groups sucked all the money and the oxygen out of the room.
I/we will keep fighting.

Much truth in these observations but at the end of the day the Tea Party Membership carries the can for two reasons:
* their visceral hatred of and intolerance for Trump and
* their gross inability to discern competence in most of their candidates; some of whom belonged to Zombie Apocalypse.
>>* their gross inability to discern competence in most of their candidates;

"...who, being themselves but fallible and uninspired men, have assumed dominion over the faith of others, setting up their own opinions and modes of thinking as the only true and infallible, and as such endeavoring to impose them on others, hath established and maintained false religions over the greatest part of the world, and through all time;...that it is time enough for the rightful purposes of civil government, for its officers to interfere when principles break out into overt acts against peace and good order; and finally, that truth is great and will prevail if left to herself, that she is the proper and sufficient antagonist to error, and has nothing to fear from the conflict, unless by human interposition disarmed of her natural weapons, free argument and debate, errors ceasing to be dangerous when it is permitted freely to contradict them. Good post that ought to be internalized by those who promote candidates.
