Melania’s is a half-version of my Mom’s basic Christmas cookie recipe...only Mom decorated hers with Red Hots candy.

They’re very good, like shortbread.

Hillary’s recipe seems like the tollhouse cookies with oatmeal. Melania’s cookies actually I have a cookie recipe quite similar and if so I think they will be excellent.

yes I think mine called for either the large colored sugar granules or possibly a lemon glaze. yes, and butter shortbread cookies are really addicting....

Hillary’s recipe uses one cup of vegetable shortening. No one uses that crap anymore; it’s disgusting garbage.

12 minutes seems a long time for oatmeal cookies. mine I bake at 350 for 8 minutes. I use butter not margarine.

Article only shows a photo of Hillary’s cookies, not Melania’s.

I’m with you. I only want real food.

I didn’t know they still made that “solid vegetable shortening” anymore. I thought the government had outlawed “trans-fats” by now, or did they have to bring them back — to be “trans-friendly”?

If I see one more hecking, cloying chocolate chip cookie, I’ll scream.

I prefer Melania’s.

Looks sort of like a shortbread type cookie, which I do like.

It’s very popular in gay bars.

[which are not at all like granola bars, I might add]

Even Jason finds something lacking with the Clintons.

Yes, people make the chocolate chip ones all the time.

I think I’ll try Melania’s recipe this Christmas; I’m curious about how it comes out texture-wise.

I was wondering why no flavoring, but if it’s like short-bread, that makes sense.

They actually did modify the product to bring it in line with regulations; but it still has a little trans-fat. Apparently you can claim ‘0’ grams if the amount is small enough:

I *love* shortbread cookies.

My grocery store sells some that come from Scotland.

They are expensive but exquisite.

I’m not much of a sweets eater but those things?

Yum.

:)
