Parting Thoughts On The First Debate
American Rattlesnake ^ | September 29,2016 | Gerard Perry

Donald Trump dominated the first 20 minutes to half hour of the encounter. Focusing primarily upon trade, the one public policy he’s immersed himself in-and has a mastery of-played to his strong suit. It also highlighted the stunning hypocrisy at the core of Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Trumpeting her opposition to CAFTA merely served to emphasize her political opportunism, as this stance was crafted expressly with the purpose of securing her left flank in any future Democratic contest. Supporting one of President Bush’s signature foreign policies would have made her path to victory in 2008 that much more difficult. We should recall that Barack Obama was not on her political radar at the time.

Likewise, her opposition to TTP-a pact she enthusiastically promoted as Secretary of State-was born of political opportunism, not genuine conviction. Even without the surprisingly successful Sanders campaign, endorsing a plan which was almost universally opposed by organized labor-the backbone of the Democratic Party even in its current corporatized, Clintonian shell-could have proved fatal to her presidential ambitions. Her labored attempt at triangulation, combined with Trump’s implicit appeal to disenchanted supporters of her primary opponent, was unquestionably the highlight of the debate from his perspective...

I JUST noticed watching (Oh God .. again ), Lester's opening statement and he is serious faced until he starts to say that the questions are his, and I swear to you ...

HIS CHEEKS DRAW UP IN AN ATTEMPT TO CONCEAL A SMIRK, BUT HE CAN'T HELP HIMSELF !

He's laughing at his own lie that the questions are his.

SOMEONE please look and see if I'm crazy or not.

I was live-tweeting the debate, so I didn't notice the facial expressions, but I did pick up on that statement.

The fact that Hillary's surrogates-both in and out of the media-were working on him for 2 weeks leading up to the debate probably had an impact.

The idea wasn't that she needed help to win the debate, but that accusing someone of being a liar is a rhetorical kill shot in political discourse. The only problem is that you can't do that credibly if you yourself are a congenital liar, a la Hillary, which is why she needs media cut-outs to do her dirty work.

Hard to tell. I do know he shared the questions with Clinton. That Clinton was baseball signaling him. That she another ear piece with who knows what behind it. And that Holt never lobbed any gothcha questions to Hillary like he did Trump. So Trump’s performance could have been better, but he really had no idea what he was up against.

That's precisely the problem.

He's been campaigning for nearly a year-and has seen how the media has treated him-yet he had no idea what was in store for him?

Felony clinton is a much more experienced debater than Trump, and I doubt if he could get away with the kind of chicanery slick hilly has over the last few decades.
