RCP Video ^ | 10-9-2016 | Tim Hains

JOY REID, MSNBC: I don't want to be dramatic with it, but my father came to this country from the Democratic Republic of the Congo... We need to not speed past the point that an American candidate for president threatened to jail his political opponent. .....

(snip)

.... as of this summer, a political opponent of the current leader was put in jail on charges. This happens in Malaysia, this happens in Uganda, this does not happen in the United States of America.

Please everyone knows that all Trump meant was that Hillary would face real justice not the corrupt kind that has kept her from facing it.

No one believes Trump was going to pull a Woodrow Wilson and just throw people in jail.

>>> She’s being jailed for tax evasion, money laundering, bribery, conspiracy, racketeering, and making false unsworn statements to federal officers.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, .... and yes.

You only left out the complete disregard of handling the national top secrets.

Uhm were the Democrats on the floor of your convention chanting lock her up also guilty of Congo style politics? Or maybe there is a perception she did something she should have gone to jail for.

As someone who lived in the DRC for a number of years, I can say that political opponents in the DRC are normally co-opted or exiled. Those imprisioned are those too stupid to co-operate or too principled. Co-opting politicians is much more frequent and is similar to what occurs here but in a more polished members except we lack principled politicians. They all eat at the same trough and have the same negative long term effect on the country. Money, gifts, and jobs are given to the politicians, their friends, and supporters backed up with the threat of exile or force. Think Manchin’s daughter. Major medicare fraud, headlines, and only a fine results. Shareholders (you and I) pay and the connected players continue as nothing has happened. Manchin’s daughter also is unqualified and lied about receiving an MBA from, of all places, WVU and had her father tried to force WVU to make it a reality. Nothing happened except to the peons involved at WVU that were sacrificial lambs. Here it is the same except for the threat of exile or, in most cases, bodily harm.

In countries where the politicians serve the people and are close to the people put the politicians and those close to them on notice. A good example is Iceland. They jail the bankers and force out the politicians at the slightest impropriety. Here we have Hillary and Bill plodding on with their garbage decades later. In a highly transparent, functional constitutional republic they would have been held to account a long time ago.

The USA approximates a banana republic. If Trump does not win, the supreme court will be stacked for a generation and the country will be finished. The GOPe, which is part of the co-opted establishment, does not care about this because regardless of change they can continue to sell the same garbage and keep their friends and family in power. They will continue to mix big business favoritism with religious values voters and only ever reward big business. Nothing will change. This country is nothing like what it was when I was younger and I am only in my 30s. The change is part of a deliberate process to entrench the political elite at the expense of the existing general public.

I would also say that in the Congo the real political threat comes from the people, not the co-opted politicians. This is why the ANR (Congo’s secret police) primarily target regular citizens who have an idea in their head that they can make their country better. In Kinsasha they are warned off and if they persist they enter the ANR building headquarters side and exit on the Congo river side. Its much the same in other parts of the DRC. The politicians are a known quantity that is easily co-opted, the people are the threat.

Trump actually said there would be a special prosecutor over issues not related to the campaign.

Threats to jail her because she is a political opponent is not what is happening here. Ms. Joy knows it and is as much a liar as Hillary.

Just serving in govt does not give you a pass on breaking laws.

Calling for a special prosecutor, as Trump did, is not equivalent to throwing someone in jail, but it can lead to that.

Joy Reid needs to listen to what Trump actually said, and until she does, she needs to STFU.

It should happen in the United States of America. Long past time to bring honesty back to the “leaders.” Clintons are criminals and need to be held accountable!

Trump should have prefaced his statement with, I will enforce our laws, and you will be in jail.

How long has she been here? She doesn't seem to know much about how American justice works.

Unless she fears Trump will follow the 'Obama model' of justice.
