Even practicing Catholic inclined to be charitable about Pope Francis — and these are in the minority; most practicing Catholics I know detest him — think he is naïve-to-foolish when it comes to politics. Pope Francis has ZERO influence on how US Catholics vote, except for the lefties, most of whom are non-practicing Catholics, and all of whom would have voted for HRC anyway. In fact, I believe that Pope Francis’s trip to Mexico to fuss over the people streaming over the border from Mexico to the US helped Donald Trump win the Republican primary because many Republicans, including Catholics, were irritated by the Pope's meddling and his dopiness.
