Before we say the dims are beholden to immigration as a bad strategy we might want to look at a few states.

NV, CO, NM, CA, VA used to be reliably Red from 1968-1988. Now they are reliably Blue.

NC is a swing state.

GA and TX are seeing changes in demographics that will put them in light red or light purple in the next two cycles.

That immigration strategy is not failing the dims.
