I started writing my blog in 2009, the year our first black president was sworn into office. Although I had written pieces previously over the previous eight years, it was not until fall of 2009 that I put pen to paper regularly. Did I mention that when I started we had our first black president?
I mention the fact that Barack Obama is black because for most of the eight years Ive been writing Ive been called racist. Never to my face, sometimes on Facebook and not infrequently in the larger sense as someone who supports the Constitution and advocates small government.
In all honesty Ive probably lost half a dozen friends via Facebook over that exact point. These werent just Facebook friends but rather people Ive known for years or even decades, people Ive worked closely with and some with whom Ive shared Christmas dinner. Each time it was over an issue that is near and dear to the left such as gay marriage, Barack Obama, Black Lives Matter or some similar issue.
In each case I tried to make my arguments focusing on the facts
slippery slopes, rates of unwed motherhood, government incompetence such as with Solyndra - economics, etc. Each time while things might start out cordial enough, eventually, because I could not be swayed to my friends position I was called a racist, sexist, homophobe etc. I was suddenly labeled a hater of whatever group was impacted by the policy we might have been discussing, despite evidence to the contrary! The thing is, it didnt seem to matter at all what I actually said, the words I actually wrote
if I didnt agree with the other persons point of view they seemed to have no problem slapping their label on me and feeling victorious.
It makes you think
if people I know well, people whove know me for years and worked with me and socialized with me can suddenly feel comfortable applying these labels to me albeit on Facebook because Ive written about conservative, Constitutional positions never, ever because of something Ive actually ever said or done what kind of debate is even possible? Particularly when some of the people I respect the most and quote most frequently are themselves black such as Thomas Sowell and Shelby Steele.
Now we have a white president
but apparently Im still a racist. Even though there were LOTS of things about Donald Trump I disliked and wrote about, the fact that I actually voted for the guy makes me racist. Interestingly, had I voted for the other white person on the ticket Id have apparently no longer been a racist

I understand how you feel. Try getting married and starting a family at 18 instead of going to college like your friends did. You’d swear I had tried to escape Scientology!
The fact that I chose a different path was almost always interpreted as a condemnation of the choices my friends made and now, eight years later, I don’t have any of those friends anymore.
The only upside was that they all abandoned me over having a family instead of waiting a couple years and abandoning me when I came out as a conservative and then as a Republican.
These people act like cult members is what I mean to say and once they get in their full-on denouncing mode there’s not much you can do but wave and say good bye.
Your problem is clear and simple and not solvable peacefully: you have good logic.
When libtards encounter good logic there are no rational arguments; so they simply resort to SVL’s (Standard Victim Labels).
Irony....
Kind of like there is no evidence of illegalities but we must recount states where Trump won.
There is evidence of illegalities in N.C. But lets stop the recount there because a democrat won.
It is a waste of time to use logic with these people. Thinking for themselves is an alien concept.
People on facebook want to see your pictures and pictures of cats. They don’t want to be served up a dish of politics, no matter how well reasoned.
This is why wars are fought.
It’s nice to know those who have no respect for oneself.
Don't vote for black person = racist.
Vote for Lynn Swann as governor of PA against white boy Fast Eddie Rendell = still racist.
I know some liberals with whom I can have a discussion over issues that does not devolve into memes. I have found that if a liberal is spreading memes involving racism, just don’t bother with them. They are doing far more harm than good to their movement, and Trump’s win is living proof of that.
In 2009 our first Muslim President was sworn in.
My husband was 23 when we got married and his parents were angry about until they both died.
Im up to 8 real friends lost due to FB. 5 under Obama and 3 this election cycle. It wasnt about them having a different opinion, it was about them turning into complete Aholes.
Facebook is evil.
My sister in law de-friended me because I had the temerity to ask her about her claim that there was rioting after Obama’s election. I was being “too political.”
I got married young and had a lot of kids. No regrets here.
The comments from some people though.. They can be nasty. I like it better where we live now. The negative comments are far in between the good.
