The cancellation by ABC of Tim Allens hit comedy Last Man Standing comes on the heels of CBS Stephen Colberts obscenity-laced rant against Donald Trump and underscores how far the media thought police have gone in their war on conservatives, conservative thought, and even conservative comedy.
Allens show, in which he plays the manager of a sporting goods chain, features Allens biting and genuinely funny witticisms poking fun at all things liberal. Its humor is balanced, with the show featuring a Canadian liberal son-in-law who gets his points across. But it is a rarity among sitcoms, in that any conservative viewpoints are represented at all. In its sixth season, "Last Man Standing" is doing quite well in the ratings. As the entertainment website deadline.com noted:
ABC has opted not to renew the longtime Friday 8 PM anchor for Season 7 despite the fact that the blue-collar sitcom was ABCs second most watched comedy this season with 8.1 million viewers in Live +7, only behind flagship Modern Family (8,7 million). It was the third most watched ABC scripted series overall behind Greys Anatomy and Modern Family .
With a central character who is a political conservative and devout Christian adhering to traditional American values, the blue-collar comedy appeals to viewers in the Heartland, a constituency that helped elect Donald Trump as president and has been energized post-election as evidenced by the ratings success of new USA drama Shooter...
In its sixth and final season, Last Man Standing averaged a very respectable for any night and especially Friday, 1.2 Live+same day rating in adults 18-49 and 6.4 million viewers, regularly winning its 8-8:30 PM time slot.

JW is a wingnut, I’ll give you that. And yet, he made a show where the good guys are the everyman, and the bad guys are the state.
It is interesting that you mention China, as there is a Chinese influence in “Firefly” as well.
I remember the “Archie for President” pins.
>>Totally agree. The Entertainment Business is not about Entertainment. Nor is it about Business.<<
I have no problem with that. One leads to the other, usually. If you are sufficiently entertaining, people will pay to see/hear you.
In this case (and with most of the entertainment business) it is about IDEOLOGY trumping business. Look at the article! LMS had great numbers. Enviable number.
But no matter how profitable, Conservative ideals must be flushed from public view!
The show is produced by 20th Century Fox and licensed by ABC. There are reports that the licensing cost is the issue, not viewership. Likely it will be picked up by someone else, providing Alllen is willing. I haven’t heard his take on it yet.
That said, there is no doubt that all the big media companies put PC compliance ahead of profits.
“You should read up on how Hollywood bent over for Hitler in the 1930s.”
As I’ve read, in the beginning everyone bent over for Hitler. He was supposed to be the best thing, globally, since sliced bread.
Many, MANY people talked about how he was going to create peace in a war-torn region of the world. That his ideas were stable, reasonable and that Jewish banking / carpet bagging was really the source of the evil in Germany. People weren’t forced to buy and read Mein Kampf. It didn’t come to them for free in the mail either.
What’s scarier is that Nelson Mandela has a similar timeline of popularity. It’s a good thing that he’s a shiftless, lazy african vagrant because if he had an ounce of industriousness in his sack-of-sh!t body he would have been a real issue.
And need we talk about the lasting effect of Che Guevara, and the similar rise of Castro’s popularity ? This sort of crap happens all the time. I actually feel better that Trump and the American Patriot are so heavily resisted. It shows me that we’re doing something right.
For what it’s worth, I’ve almost completely stopped watching network TV, whether it’s for entertainment or news. I will occasionally watch the travel channel or some kind of “educational” TV. The only news I occasionally watch is One America News. Every network program, Fox News included, has an agenda that seems diametrically opposed to my view of the world and belief system. I am getting old and I have developed a lively hatred for the press and TV networks. The Media in general have become Public Enemy #1.
The Chinese in Firefly, according to the many tomes of commentary and philosophy on it, are a warning signal of the future.
China will overrun the future population. And they won’t bring with them advances in technology and culture. They are the homeless, tent-dwelling street vendors.
Remember that while the vile, disgusting market places and bazaars are labelled in Chinese, the controls and buttons on the ship are in English.
(Reminds me of “Why are there no muslims on Star Trek? Because it’s the future” joke)
I gave up on the boob-toob almost ten years ago and consequently have never seen this show. I wasn’t even aware of it until someone referenced it a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed Tim from the “Tool Man” days and am sorry that I missed it.
No matter - the network will replace it with a generic sitcom featuring a variety of social misfits and degenerates who all happen to be committed leftists.
Let the laugh-track commence!
Hollywood bent over for Hitler when Hitler and Stalin were allies. When Hitler invaded Russia, that ended.
Even, before that.

Thank you for the insight. I never made that connection.
One of my favorite scenes from Firefly is in Heart of Gold where Inara meets Mal after Mal has slept with Inara’s friend. He’s somewhat ashamed at the encounter but she states he needs to get over his puritanical views on sex and is happy for her friend. The next scene shows her alone crying uncontrollably. Don’t know if Josh meant to play the natural law card there but it worked for me.
He made the Firefly show with the State being the bad guys in 2002, during the Bush administration. It was acceptable then, and would be acceptable now, but would not have been during the Obama administration.
If Democrats can’t silence conservatives, then they must be destroyed. It’s a psychopathic thing.
Hopefully a cable channel will pick it up
I don't turn on of the left wing channels
Ah yes ! While I got that scene and it also hit me like it did you, I admit that I forgot about that.
I think Joss Whedon created Buffy. Buffy was unwatchable dross. When Firefly came out, it was my first interaction with Joss Whedon.
I remember thinking that he is someone I need to follow - someone who actually “gets it”. My disappointment in the real jerkwad was shared by millions of people, I’m sure.
Name a confident, intelligent, conservative adult white male character in the last 20 years.
Oh, I thought they were going somewhere with the youngest daughter Eve, nudged out of the slot at West Point, but still on track for the Air Force Academy. There was a tough young lady.
I doubt it. Red Eye is a talk show, and is on FNC, not on the Fox channel which is not a cable channel like FNC
You said it.
