Losing the presidency was merely the triggering event that woke them up to how much they've really lost (politically) since about 2010. Until the 2016 election, Dems were going along behaving as if they still owned the store.
The American public has already begun a rightward shift. They're going to shift even more rightward, due to the incessant negativity and outrageous behavior of the Dems.
They need to lose big in the mid term elections. I mean yugely. House and Senate seats, Governorships, state legislatures, and even local races. Maybe even a seat on the high court. They need a smackdown of historic proportions to knock some sense into them.
A political ass beating is the only civil means I can think of, that will quiet them down.

As you pointed out, that has been happening since 2010.
Their violence is confirmation of that. And if the election trend continues one can expect their violence to escalate in-step.
It would be nice if JUST ONCE the pubbies in congress would hand the dems a crushing LEGISLATIVE defeat.
