I have to assume that Pensacola Christian College is a private college. That being the case the school can’t violate his 1st Amendment rights. Other grounds for suit must be sought.

If that school has any “public” connection, I own their butt.
If they have ever taken a penny in a federal grant, contracted for any government research, have ROTC, admitted one student on a GI Bill, applied for property tax abatement, gotten free or reduced cost food in their student nutrition program, (heck, I’d even settle for a student commuting to school on federally funded I-10 if I had to)... ANYTHING, then I’ve got venue in the federal district for West Florida faster than you can say “subpoena” :)

I think it’s a generated issue designed to antagonize. If it wasn’t statues it would be something else. It is a thing to exploit, to antagonize, to generate discord. That’s the goal. The statue is just a vehicle.
There were plenty of bad people on both “sides” and I think some dupes as well.

And very ironic, at that, considering this is a Christian college.
And yet if it were about religious free speech in a political setting, guess whose side the school would be on?
The first amendment is dead. Anything left the Constitution? What’s the point of a republic if we no longer have any rights?
Perhaps not the greatest, yet Lee is definitely part of that pantheon.
