The student has only a few days to get registered for this semester’s term so the school’s lawyer better read fast, speaker faster, and have the check in the kid’s hand in about a week, or it’s “Katy bar the door, we’re going to town and goin’ medieval on the school’s ass and bank account”. (Gee, Ving Rhames really had a way with words. I prefer another version as applied to the hardcore Left, “Let’s go Negan on their asses”.

Batter up!

Exactly.

If set behind a semester, the student’s lifetime earnings are affected.

The check can follow later, but if the school’s lawyer is smart, he’ll get the kid back in school ASAP to minimize the kid’s economic losses, which will eventually be the school’s losses. If he does not want to go to PCC, cash in a few favors and get him in FSU or somewhere else... quickly... and pay the tuition, room and board. The $ can all be settled later.

Likewise, income losses can be calculated by an economist and actuary. The losses for damage to his reputation, emotional pain, etc. are effectively whatever the jury says they are, possibly a lot, possibly zero.

You NEVER want to hand 12 citizens your check and give them permission to fill in the amount.

PS, I think the reason Ving Rhames is so tough is how else but tough is a Black kid named Irving going to make it through high school in Harlem!

:)

Be well.
