Is this .25 ACP Mouse Gun enough for Personal Defense?
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 12/8/2017 | J Hines

These days most concealed carriers refer to smaller handguns less than a .45 caliber as “mouse guns.” We’re talking about the Browning .25 ACP.
Yes, its is considered an antique self-defense gun from the early 20th century, some would say it was a fad that never faded.

Most people that do have these .25’s are collectors and a small minority that actually have this as a backup.(ankle or throwaway guns) But is it a reliable self-defense gun?

Nowadays thanks to smart gun folks have put this caliber to the test against gel. The ideal penetration is “twelve inches” according to FBI protocol.
Here’s Youtuber mark3smle tackling this question of whether or not the .25 ACP is reliable for self-defense.

Yes this little piece is the ideal size for concealed and lightweight, but it may not be the caliber to have to stop someone in its track. Probably best as a last resort. See the full footage testing of this .25 ACP for personal defense video here. Anyone carrying a mouse gun?

Ian Fleming had James Bond carrying a .25 caliber Beretta early on. The British gun expert Geoffrey Boothroyd wrote Fleming and said the .25 caliber gun was only suited for a lady’s handbag and suggested the Walther PPK. Of course the .380 PPK isn’t that powerful, but it’s a big step up from a .25 caliber.

green Crimson Trace..

They are sweet. Not only bright to the eye but allows you to train with an unloaded weapon to get your point shooting down.

At room distance I believe the laser and point shooting memory will be quicker than trying to align sights.

Basically like pointing a flashlight, instinctive.

Probably 20 yards, straight down. She was at the top of the stairs outside, he was going for a gun in his car parked out front. I would have been a witness but I got sent to my room for spying on them. Lucky for me because the 2nd shot went wide and we don’t know where it went.

Same here.

I carry the Sig P232.

I used to carry all manner of full sized and compact weapons, but didn’t actually carry them.

I left them at home. Too heavy. Too bulky. Uncomfortable.

But the little Sig is 15oz empty, small and no sharp edges. She goes just about everywhere. And the GUN can shoot a 5in group at 50 ft.

“I keep a .380 in my truck and a Taurus Judge (.45/410) in the house.”

What’s up with the latter? Have not seen a new one on sale in at least three years.

The local guys at the shop told me more than a year ago, “They make them in batches,” and dutifully took my name ans phone number, but there’s still nothing out there.

The .380 Sig is about the same size.
And has a lot more pop.

This is off topic but is Godless worth watching? The trailer looked like it was about some feminist chicks in the old west. I have little interest in the “tough girl” genre. I will watch nearly anything set in history. But no chick flicks.

The trailer is misleading I enjoyed the series. It is very violent with alot of killing.

I have this exact model .25 Browning. It is well made and has never jammed. It remains in the center rest of my car for emergency use. I did buy some new ammunition for it as the cartridges I had were over 40 years old.

“Is this .25 ACP Mouse Gun enough for Personal Defense?”

NO! However it MAY be better than nothing considering that many crimes are stopped/prevented by the presence of a gun. It may be worse than nothing if you have to shoot someone and it makes them mad. A properly placed shot with a .25 can kill so shoot for the head if thing get serious.

Bond used a .32 caliber PPK. They were all .32 caliber for a very long time.

Ever so often I carry a nice little Beretta .25. Now I find a Ruger .380 fits just as well.
