Every time you remote-start your car, a bald eagles dies.

Once the people got “comfortable with their chains,” the real reason became easier to swallow.

Well, if they were bald, then they already suffered from lowered self-esteem, so... ;-P

I remote start my car immediately after I turn it off so it stays warm while I’m shopping or where ever I’m going. I try to go the general area the car is parked after 20 min. if I can to re-remote start it. I like it nice and toasty when I get back in.

At the local neighborhood meeting, the local LEO representative gives out crime stats.

Car theft is up.

He also said if a car is stolen while left idling unattended, insurance companies will call it negligence and not pay.

Warming up the car isn’t for the benefit of the car, it’s for the benefit of ME.

It is true that an engine will warm up faster under load, but there’s more to it than that. The windshield, for one, needs defrosting when a car is parked outside.

Second, I don’t care whether something so trivial is illegal. Laws are for suckers, amply demonstrated in the last several decades.

Blow me.

We can't warm up our car but Albert Arnold Algore Jr. can fly all over the world in his jet.

There is a carve out for automobiles with a factory remote starter. In most states, it covers vehicles with this option, as long as the vehicle is locked during the autostart.

Is there an answer on any new cars with remote start, that the IT people could install program that would allow remote start but lock the transmission. Some cars now have electronic steering, why not lock those out, for remote start?
Probably not now but why not?

I see Minnesota on the list of states banning idling. That’s a joke because at -20 you need to warm up your vehicle to clear the windows and even drive. I have a manual transmission and in the current cold weather I almost need both hands to shift gears until my vehicle warms up.

I just looked up Maryland law and idling to warm up a vehicle sounds legal. Its been very cold here the past few weeks.

Maryland’s Idling Law (Transportation Article §22-402)
A motor vehicle engine may not be allowed to operate more than 5 consecutive minutes when the vehicle is
not in motion, except as follows:
o When a vehicle is forced to remain motionless because of traffic conditions or mechanical difficulties
over which the operator has no control;
o When it is necessary to operate heating and cooling or auxiliary equipment installed on the vehicle;
o To bring the vehicle to the manufacturer’s recommended operating temperature; or
o When it is necessary to accomplish the intended use of the vehicle.

They are probably more concerned with Summer when the Air Quality gets crappy.

Ha! Good point! But remember, the libs would like to do away with that scene as well! (By getting ALL of the cars off the road!)

Probably means almost no one gets a ticket for idling.

I would recommend to our liberal brethren that they warm up their cars in the garage. Probably best to keep the garage door closed so nobody sees it, and just to be safe they should probably sit in the driver’s seat with the windows rolled up.

RE:”Probably means almost no one gets a ticket for idling”

Cant imagine cops here looking for idling cars in freezing weather to ticket.
Especially when its windy, wind-chill effectively 5 degF. They would have to get out of their own idling warm car.

Now what if someone leaves their car running during summer when its hot (air quality condition RED) while shopping a Walmarts to keep the coach air conditioned?

Few would be sympathetic over them getting a ticket.
