Most of those “laws” are aimed at diesel vehicles.
Remote start keeps me warmer...they can come after me if they don’t like it!
Here’s a list of states that have laws against idling, according to the EPA.
Arizona—California—Colorado—Connecticut
Delaware—District of Columbia—Georgia
Hawaii—Illinois—Louisiana—Maine
Maryland—Massachusetts—Minnesota
Missouri—Nevada—New Hampshire
New Jersey—New York—Ohio—Oregon
Pennsylvania—Rhode Island—South Carolina
Texas—Utah—Vermont—Virginia
Washington—Wisconsin—Wyoming
I remember a study showing that this almost does not help with warming up the car and that it would be better to start driving cold.
Here in MN, the cops come in groups to eat. Leave their cars running the whole time.
I remember how this evolved here in Denver.
First, it was, “Don’t leave your vehicle unattended. This adds to the increase in car thefts.”
Then, people would ask, “What about the remote start systems that kills the engine if one were to break in and try driving away without the key in the ignition?”
Then, their story changed to, “Don’t leave your vehicle unattended. This adds to the increase in global warming.”
Punk bastards.
Every time you remote-start your car, a bald eagles dies.
"Woe to you lawyers. For you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers"
I see Minnesota on the list of states banning idling. Thats a joke because at -20 you need to warm up your vehicle to clear the windows and even drive. I have a manual transmission and in the current cold weather I almost need both hands to shift gears until my vehicle warms up.
Marylands Idling Law (Transportation Article §22-402)
A motor vehicle engine may not be allowed to operate more than 5 consecutive minutes when the vehicle is
not in motion, except as follows:
o When a vehicle is forced to remain motionless because of traffic conditions or mechanical difficulties
over which the operator has no control;
o When it is necessary to operate heating and cooling or auxiliary equipment installed on the vehicle;
o To bring the vehicle to the manufacturers recommended operating temperature; or
o When it is necessary to accomplish the intended use of the vehicle.

They are probably more concerned with Summer when the Air Quality gets crappy.
I would recommend to our liberal brethren that they warm up their cars in the garage. Probably best to keep the garage door closed so nobody sees it, and just to be safe they should probably sit in the driver’s seat with the windows rolled up.
A friend (in Albuquerque) had his
vehicle stolen while it was idling
in his garage. The cops found it
over 300 miles away. The thieves
trashed it.
About a year before, while visiting
the same friend, I had a 1985 Mustang
GT convertible stolen from his driveway.
(It was parked, locked, and not running)
The cops found it about 20 miles away
stripped of its drive train.
I just recently read somewhere that
Albuquerque is now #1 in the US for
vehicle theft.
After having lived in Minnesota,
starting and warming up the car is
a practice that, at -20, is worth
the risk of having one’s car stolen.
Scraping windows sucks...

People who ‘care’ will freeze their ‘junk’ off to SEND A MESSAGE to the rest of us, who want to be comfortable. The other 99% will continue warming their vehicles.
