Well, if one is interested in going paleo-retro, they could claim the four pillars of civilization are alcohol, fire, dogs & marriage.

Consider the most retro-grade culture on the planet today; about the only thing they share is fire. Marriage is only a sham - to an 8 year old cousin. I'm talking about the need to deal with 18 year olds madly in love and willing to kill.

Fire (cooking/environment), dogs (companions/security) and alcohol (socialization via story telling aka verbal history) round out community evolution over 10s of thousands of years.

There was a much safer alternative to alcohol...GHB

A few years ago you could buy tubs of it at General Nutrition.

Idiots (Including the Liquor lobby)screamed that it was a ‘date-rape-drug’ somehow they left out the part that alcohol was and is the oldest date-rape drug known to man. The only thing older is a whack on the head with a stick...but that is not really a drug.

This mayhem resulted in GHB becoming a scheduled substance.

It is true that in pure form it’s possible to overdo GHB, but the same is true of alcohol....just swig down a few ozs of Everclear or similar. These are 95 % alcohol, as high a proof as can be distilled...and they are dangerous.

GHB could be regulated to the same potency as alcohol. 5% to 40% beverages and allowed only for those over 21.

Less physical damage from liver damage and other illnesses would be the result...and the beverages would taste much better to boot.

But we are a nation of fools it would seem :-/

WE are aesthetically predisposed to ingest mind-altering substances....pharmaceutical firms should be allowed to create the safest ones possible.

Wake the F up Jeff Sessions and start living in the real world.

The fundamental fact is that people drink because they have learned to expect it to help them feel better. The pleasure principle in action. The four “Reasons” are just subsets of this basic principle.

Thiose who feel worse after first drinking, tend not to repeat it much.. Simple.

I lost someone to alcohol, is was dreadful. I tried to transition them to GHB {GAMMA-HYDROXYBUTYRATE) _ cut it down to where it was the same strength as strong wine, 12proof or so.

She loved it and her liver enzymes took a turn for the best. She was back at work, and her friends were so happy for her.

She started dating again and became pregnant.

At about 5mos into the pregnancy GHB was placed on the drug schedule and remover from the shelves.

A few month later she was dead, the baby was so frail and sick... I stayed with it constantly, the little angel died in my arms late one night.

I was never able to enter that hospital again. I will never be quite the same.

Very sad story——God bless that little angel.

Alcohol is a brutal killer and I’ve been watching it destroy lives for my entire life.

It destroyed my mother, and she didn’t drink.

I surmise then that it was your father who suffered from this terrible illness (And YES, it is an illnesses, not a moral failing)

Just think how things might have been different if a safer intoxicant, such as GHB had been known and prescribed.

Alas, we live in a sick society that cannot deal with things as they really are. :-/

After all these years I still wake at night and remember that young girl and her baby and weep. Those who have to live through a loved one with this illness suffer as much or more than they do...sometimes to the point of death. In my opinion, those prone to drug use are lacking in something that the rest of us are lucky enough to have naturally...so they desperately try to make up for what is lacking....so sad.

“If I post the entire story, it will result in a duplicate content which is not good for both sites.”

*******

Wrong! Your entire post was a cut and paste of an entire story from another blog. So why not just post the article from the other blog, and stop posting informercials from your blog five times a day, blog pimp?

By the way, here is the rest of the story, but I think the link should be changed to the original: https://www.kp.ru/daily/26796.7/3831016/

*************

Motivation 1: People drink alcohol to improve your mood

This is more common in teenagers and young people, as well as extroverts and impulsive or aggressive people. These types of people want to feel drunk to raise their spirits.

..

But there are other, more dangerous consequences, to which this motivation leads - a person is prone to risky behavior. Often, it ends tragically.

Motivation 2: People drink alcohol for social reasons

In this situation, alcohol consumption is closely related to one’s social life and, as a rule, leads to moderate consumption of alcohol. Researchers believe that in such cases, physicians need to work not with specific patients, as in the case of the first motivation, but instead, they need to work at the state level.

Motivation 3: People drink alcohol to forget problems

People who drink because of such motives often have a lower level of self-esteem. They often resort to alcohol because of anxiety and depression.

Motivation 4: People drink alcohol to fit in (to match the environment)

These people usually drink less compared to those in the three groups described above. They can drink only one glass of wine the whole evening, or drink a glass of champagne just to toast with.

Often, they hold a drink in their hands throughout the evening without drinking at all, which helps ensure that they do not stand out in the crowd.

Scientists identify several risk factors for alcoholism. For example, genetics. There are specific genetic factors that make some people more prone to developing alcoholism. Those whose families have a history of using drugs or alcohol are six times more likely to become dependent on alcohol.

Another important factor is early contact with alcohol. The results of the study show that people who started drinking alcohol before age 15 are more likely to suffer from alcoholism.

If you drink alcohol, what is your motivation for drinking? Would you agree with the reasons mentioned in this study? Let us know in the comments.

Some people who want to quit drinking alcohol may be aware of their drinking problem, but feel withdrawal symptoms are too powerful to deal with on their own. Here is an article discussing how to safely handle alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

I don’t often interact with alcoholics, but when I do the first thing I tell them is I myself am a recovering alcoholic.

I’m not, but it immediately makes the conversation MUCH easier for them to deal with. (It’s a white lie that I’m certain God forgives me for)

I used to do marriage counseling under the auspices of the Catholic Church. I could not divulge to my friend (Old Father Thom), what was discussed...but I did tell him of my little white lie and, he heartily approved of it.

The very worst cases were the ones where both husband and wife were problem drinkers. I never managed to help them stay together or recover. There were two cases where I was able to help one partner, but sadly those cases both ended in divorce. It is just about impossible to live as a recovered alcoholic under the same roof with a active alcoholic. In both cases it was the father that could not abstain...and both ended up having all visitation rights denied. So horrible :-/

After a bit more than a year the church forbade me from further counseling, it was making me so depressed it was becoming a danger to me. It was the cases that involved physical abuse that I could not deal with, bruises, missing teeth...and worse. The Father warned me to stay far away from such people and no longer do any counseling.

As Frank Sinatra once said, “I pity the person who doesn’t drink. It must be terrible to get up in the morning and know that’s the best you’re going to feel all day!”

What a horrible tale my FRiend.

I’m so glad you have overcome this nightmare.

GHB is certainly not a safe drug, It can, however, be a less dangerous alternative for some hopeless alcoholics.

In a saner world pharmaceutical companies would be free to develop and market much safer recreational drugs for those that need such things. Drugs with a antidote that worked very quickly would be a boon too as if an emergency arose you could counteract the effect of the drug and function normally. Imagine an accident involving a child and you in such a drugged stupor you could not help...if the child died, I would pray for my own death as life would no longer be worth living. :-/

Alas, I fear we will never live to see the day when safe, legal drugs are allowed to be created.

God bless you my FRiend :-)

p.s. My drug of choice is Free Republic, and I overdose on it almost daily...lol (God bless you JimRob)
