A Japanese manufacturer of electric motors will spend $18 million to expand its operations in an existing plant in Tennessee.
State and company officials announced Friday that Nidec Motor Co. would be adding 301 jobs to its factory in Lexington. The expansion will include adding products to its current line and upgrading the facility in Henderson County, about 100 miles west of Nashville.
This is a big deal for Lexington and one of the largest economic development announcements weve had here since 2011, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam said in a news release. I appreciate Nidec for continuing to invest in Henderson County and helping Tennessee lead in the creation of high-quality jobs.
Nidec currently employs about 200 people in Tennessee and will employ more than 500 with the expansion, according to the release.
The plant was originally owned by electric motor manufacturer Leroy-Somer Americas, which Nidec acquired for $1.2 billion in August 2016, right after Leroy-Somer laid off 180 workers in Lexington that May.
Nidec is one of the largest manufacturers of electric motors in the world. The company makes a variety of motors for industrial, residential and commercial uses, ranging from appliances to elevators to autonomous vehicles.
This is an exciting day for the city of Lexington and our citizens, Lexington Mayor Jeff Griggs said in the release. Nidecs decision to expand in our community is a true testament as it relates to our ability to retain and attract global companies like Nidec. Nidec could have chosen to expand anywhere in the world, and we are honored that they chose Lexington.
This news is just crumbs, right Nancy Pelosi?
Whatever the case, the Democrats have to say that none of the good economic news has anything to do with Trump’s policies or the tax bill.
More electric cars and autonomous vehicles are bad for this nation.....so say Democrats.
