Thank you, Punchy

Personally, I can't wait to see the ads of "Punchy's" tantrum in the upcoming midterm races! They ought to be worth millions of votes

I remember as a young teenager going by myself to see “On the Waterfront” at the Whalley Theater in New Haven. I was so mesmerized by the performance of Marlon Brando (30-years old at the time) that it took a dozen more viewings—really, that’s how many times I saw the film, maybe more—before I realized that the greatest actors of the day—Eva Marie Saint, Karl Malden, Lee J. Cobb, Rod Steiger—were also featured in the movie.

In the years since that spellbinding experience, I saw dozens more movies, many with tremendously talented stars and amazing performances. But Brando remained a towering icon to me, unchallenged by any of his many idolaters and competitors.

Rod Steiger was a scary dude. At least that was how he presented himself on camera, or during interviews with people like David Cavett, Merv Griffin. Off camera, Rod may have acted like Johnathan Winters or Phil Silvers.

My rule-of-thumb in dealing with what to do about ‘entertainers’ is as follows:

If I know an entertainer’s political bent and if it conflicts with my political views then I will refuse to watch or listen to any of that entertainer’s drivel, be it a movie, tv or music.

For example, before Punchy opened his mouth I thought that he is a very good actor. Now, he has been banished from movie theaters, tv and stereo in this house.

I have no desire to contribute to the outrageous salaries they get. Therefore, I shall not spend money on their movies, tv or music. It sickens me when I read FR posters say something akin to the following: “I do not like so-and-so because he is a socialist but I really like his movies. He is a very good actor.”

On the other hand, if the ‘entertainer’ has expressed no political views or political views with which I agree then I will watch movies, tv or listen to the music.

“Oklahoma!” where Curly (Gordon MacRae) draws a picture of what would happen if Jud (Rod Steiger) were to hang himself.

In my opinion THE scariest dude in Hollywood was Robert Mitchum. Man, when that guy showed up you knew things were going to go south.

Yes. There was some movie Mitchum did where he played an escaped prisoner stalking a lawyer who had put him in jail.
I think the lawyer was Gregory Peck (Mr. Respectable).
The lawyer and his wife were relaxing in front of a lake at nighttime, when Mitchum as escaped convict suddenly stood up
with a loud splash. He was in the dark waters and facing both people, vowing that he was ‘going to get even. “You ain’t NEVER gonna forget!! “

. The prisoner had been underwater, holding his breath and waiting for them to complete their evening routine of sitting on the veranda and holding hands.
Absolutely terrifying!

Coincidently, Deniro played the same character in the remake in 1991.
