The United States was to begin construction in Texas on Saturday of part of President Donald Trump's border wall designed to curb illegal immigration, which he calls a security threat.

Running along four miles (six kilometers) of the 2,000-mile border with Mexico, the new section will replace existing fencing along the boundary between El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, US Customs and Border Protection said in a statement.

"This new wall will be far more durable and far more effective in deterring would-be illegal entrants," Aaron Hull, Chief Patrol Agent in the El Paso sector, said in the statement.

It said the existing fencing will be replaced by an 18-foot (5.4 meter) steel post barrier which allows Border Patrol agents to see through to the other side....

Four miles out of 2000, huh?

Well, at that rate it’ll only take 998 more years to finish (presuming the Democrats never regain power and stop it).

According to some here Trump is waffling on the wall, in fact they said it was gut-wrenching for his supporters to watch him waffle during a recent Trump rally.

Here's one recent quote from right here on good ol' Free Republic!

I saw Trump's speech at the rally last night... boy that was also tough watching him waffle about the wall.... very painful as the folks who stood for hours to get in and chant, "Build the wall!" Gut-wrenching.

That one string of barbed wire could be seen through, too. This is a bit better. So, how long will it take to wall of all of Texas’ southern border? My lifetime?

Yes, a fence, not a wall. Bet easy to knock over or climb over. Even the wall apparently is coming up short on ability to stop people. Maybe need troops? Razer wire?

Well, at least it’s getting built. May I suggest building it faster?

May I suggest taking some of the defense appropriation bill and using that? Illegal immigration is a national security threat.
So perfectly legal.

You climb a mountain one step at a time, I guess.

(But can’t we try for bigger steps?)

EW YORK (FOX5NY) - The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency says that new sections of a border wall will begin being built in El Paso, Texas starting on Saturday, September 22.

The steel bollard wall will replace fencing in the area.

Homeland Security says a four-mile section of chain link and metal fence just west of a border station will be replaced with the 18-foot tall wall.
