Let me add, and someone who could get past the corrupt deep state in a confirmation process.
I’d look for first, someone not an attorney. Second, someone who has no prior connection with the bureau. Third, perhaps a strong critic. Over the years there have been enough scandals to tell me the place reeks of problems from top to bottom. A few: Famed FBI lab scandal; having head of counter intel working for the KGB; Agent in LA giving secrets to Ruskie agent; the recent Trump fiasco; Felt giving GJ materials to reporters to name those that made it into the public specter. There are others.
Don't make that out to be more difficult to accomplish than it actually is. I bet there a number of people here on FR that could clean up the FBI rather quickly. The problem lies in rebuilding it.
Grenell could take over as Acting Director, but he’ll never get confirmed by the Senate. With the Swamp controlling the Senate about 85-15, it is going to be hard for Trump to find an acceptable permanent Director.
All the top brass at the FBI need to be fired.
