Devin Nunes Plans to Submit Criminal Referral Following Release of New Peter Strzok Texts

Rep. Devin Nunes plans to submit a criminal referral to the Department of Justice following the release of newly declassified messages from former FBI agent Peter Strzok.

The California Republican suggested the DOJ and FBI misled Congress regarding documents that had been requested during an investigation of potential FISA abuses.

Nunes wants to know why these messages, released earlier this month, weren’t revealed to the committee previously.

“This is clearly lying and obstructing Congress,” Nunes claimed during an interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo. “This is information that we asked for numerous times.”

“We sat in meetings with DOJ and FBI, and they sat there and stone-cold said there’s no more information, there’s no more text messages.”

...

These texts, Nunes believes, could have been critical and necessary “to run a proper investigation.”

“They knew that we were investigating FISA abuse, why would this not have been given to Congress? This is just another example we’re going to have to do another criminal referral,” Nunes said.

God bless Nunes for his work and persistence but his referrals are not going anywhere. DC simply does not punish DC.

Yawn.

Congressional criminal referrals are as effective as Congressional hearings and Congressional subpoenas.

Is this a new referral, the same referral that was talked about last week, or won talked about before that?

Until a news story includes the words, “has been arrested”, it’s all theater.

“Arrested.”

Nah. I look for “Incarcerated.” There are WAY too many outs between arrest and prison.

We’ll know if it’s real by if Strzok has an Epstein happen to him. Or a Seth Rich.

God bless Nunes for his work and persistence...

That blessing may be entirely earned.

OTH other hand, Nunes certainly knows the clock is running, so rather than simply "plan" for a referral why has he not dropped it overnight?

Have always been impressed with his understanding of what was wrong and what needed to be done to arrest anti-MAGA efforts, but do not recall he has actually timely produced anything of value.

If not, and given that he has promised to represent his constituents in this political street fight, his behavior hints of misrepresentation and even professional negligence.

He’s one of the few that even put up any resistance. The rest of the GOP is just going along for the ride.

Dems control the committee so I’m cutting him some slack. Your criticisms are valid but at the same time being in the minority in the House is tough sledding.

To call an investigation makes the republicans “feel” like they are really doing something for the American people evidently.

Stop wasting time, stop wasting money, admit that you are irrelevant, and a scourge on the U.S. taxpayer, just like the rest of our illustrious branches of government.

In his next term of office, President Trump should learn to use the Executive like a light saber. He is the boss of ALL the Executive! If an underling is insubordinate in word or deed, that punk needs to go immediately.

More action. Less talk.

... being in the minority in the House is tough sledding.

Great point, and it may go to the heart of our troubles.

Rather than trying to work shoulder to shoulder with the political opposition, which in the case of Dems has proven to be unproductive, our R politicians ought to think more in terms of publicly working from opposite sides of the table. I.e., actually publicly emphasize how uncooperative the Dems actually are.

Trump should hold a tv appearance and declare he is signing the relief bill solely out of concern for American families, and then spend the majority of the time explaining how much of the bill is going to non-related purposes and foreign country interests.

Otherwise, IMO, he has nothing to gain by signing and a lot to lose by not signing.

That’s a great idea. I think Trump has missed a couple of golden opportunities to really use the Bully Pulpit to shine a light on rank partisanship and corruption. Tweets lack the gravitas of going on TV, as you suggest. Its a case where less can be more. Americans will take an ‘address’ more seriously and the media will have a hard time ignoring it.
