And you thought the last election was important. The coming is even more important. Benjamin Franklin was said to have been asked if we had a republic or a monarchy and he is said to have replied "a republic, if you can keep it." Joe Biden has announced (not in person, mind you but from the bunker) that he is running for reelection. He's not running for President. He is running for King and means to turn this country into a monarchy, a one-party state, not authoritarian, but totalitarian. The foundation is there.

The federal government has been expanding in that direction for at least a century. It is a small step to authoritarianism/totalitarianism to whoever wants to take that step.
I know it’s a cliche to say an upcoming election is the most important of our lifetime.
There are many things to consider with the 2024 election. I will just note that if the Democrats win the 2024 election, the federal courts, including the Supreme Court , are going to tilt back in a liberal direction more so than they have already.
The only thing we will shoot off is our mouths. I think we are too far gone to save ourselves.
It is best to stop the bad before it is put in place and the bad guys are going to step on the gas before the next election.

I guess the author was considering the ‘time’ dimension rather than the ‘distance’ dimension.
The fix is in.
The most important election of our lifetime was in 1982. We lost it and let William Clinton start this ball rolling.
And if the courts get firmly in liberal control, there will be no checks or balances at all as far as executive orders or decrees on electric cars , gas hookups, transgender issues, or any other issue you can think of.
In fact I think we could expect more executive orders or decrees , as any challenges in court will be rebuffed because the judges will be liberal. A Democratic Administration will be emboldened to push further and further

There’s not going to be another civil war. Americans will not chafe at conditions that don’t directly and personally affect them. Most are relatively comfy with the way things are.
