60% was a good idea. However, this was framed as an abortion rights issue, and the clear majority who voted against the 60% idea probably saw it as an abortion rights issue.
The original Roe decision back in 1973 was terrible Constitutional law and deserved to be overturned. However, the decision has been a disaster for conservatives. Dems and the lapdog media have spun the Court decision to overturn Roe as a decision to outlaw abortion. A large majority of Americans do not want abortion outlawed, and it’s pretty clear that even a lot of Republican women don’t support outlawing abortion. A lot of women support abortion rights, and calling them sluts and babykillers isn’t helping the conservative cause.
True, but they vote (or don't vote, I suspect in this case they just stayed home).

This unfortunately was an unforced error. This is because the folks who resisted this will run this back again once they have their changed made to stop folks from undoing their changes.
This exposes the hypocrisy of the measure. Now you have proven that you can’t stop the amendment you hate and they have proven that they can stop you from changing anything once they have shoved their crap through by simply agreeing to this amendment after they have won.

But to add to this, the intent of this was to secure an unobtainable threshold for abortion amendments to the Ohio Constitution. The existing threshold for amendments has been in place for a long, long time (100 years +)
The most recent polling for Abortion/Anti Abortion matter was about 58%...just short of the 60% threshold.

They were afraid of losing a 50%+1 vote on abortion this fall, so instead of going to work to win that election, they said, “hey, let’s sneak a single-issue vote onto a low-turnout summer ballot, win THAT by a 50%+1, and then make it harder for the pro-abortion people to win the general election vote on their initiative.”

Once again, Democrats effectively motivated their voters while Republicans were complacent and took this off-year election lightly -- as they also did in April's Supreme Court election in Wisconsin, where the GOP's resounding defeat in that race has effectively handed Democrats total control of that state's government.
Just as the shocking pro-abortionist victory in supposedly deep red Kansas in August of 2022 served as an indicator that there would be nothing resembling a "red wave" in November (in Kansas or just about anywhere else) despite the fever dreams of the hopium addicts which lasted all the way until election night, yesterday's result in supposedly deep red Ohio can be taken as a similar canary-in-the-coal-mine for November of 2024, when Democrat Sherrod Brown will likely cruise to another Senate win in Ohio and Republicans will have their hands full trying to get that state's 17 critical electoral votes. Ohio is not a mortal lock to go in the GOP column, and yesterday's vote highlights that fact.
Wouldn't yesterday's important election have been a nice opportunity for Republicans to implement their new favorite election tactic -- ballot harvesting -- instead of merely giving it lip service? The GOP leadership (Trump and occasionally Ronna McRomney) throws those words around because they know that GOP voters want to hear that the party is going to do something to try to compete on more equal footing against Democrat fraud efforts. Unfortunately the term "ballot harvesting" is just a handy buzzword to them and nothing more. The amount of money and level of organization required to change those words into actions are not forthcoming and will not be in place in any widespread systematic manner on the Republican side for 2024.
RED Flag in Ohio. The governor signed the bill into law. A November leftist Columbus Journal article shows the Nazism that is about to start happening in our state. Red flag isn’t mentioned in either article except to say Red Flag was stripped from the bill, which is a total lie. Most Ohioans are totally unaware of what just happened. Behavioral risk Assessments are the operative words here. They started implementation of this in my 5 county area this last month. You can bet DeWine is cheering for Dolan.

I disagree that Republicans were complacent. I think on this issue they are simply outnumbered.
As I posted on a different thread about this, I think the outcomes in Wisconsin, Kansas, and now Ohio, are going to encourage Millenials and Gen-Z to continue to vote in large numbers. They are going to notice that when they vote, they swing elections. Expect more Millenial, Gen-Z participation in the future. Especially on issues like global warming and student debt forgiveness.
The Ohio Constitution since 1851 has had 172 amendments. Many, with less than 60% vote. Raising the threshold to 60% would be a good idea regardless, but this election was about abortion, and it drew millions of dollars from the abortion lobby nationwide. There will be a vote on November to amend the constitution to protect unlimited abortion, and that outcome is what the August vote was intended to forestall.
Critics are right to say this was a political gambit, holding a special election in August after having changed the law to allow for it. Their fear is that the pro abortion amendment will pass, and they wanted to make it harder for that to happen. Nice try but it failed.
Ohio is not really a big pro-abortion state, but the money and influence of the national abortion industry focussing a massive advertising blitz on one state, was too much for the people to resist.

Expect....
1. Abortion to birth/parental rights Ballot this fall to be much closer as it is harder to message and a traditionally bigger turnout in November elections, even the odd year ones.
2. Expect more Sodomite initiatives on

-100% background checks
-magazine bans
-rollback on ConsCarry and stand your ground
-what other Sodie wet dream?
-gender/sex deviancy and practices as further protected class,

3. Use of off cycle low turnout elections for these as they mobilize better for small dedicated voter blocs...
4. 2024 Senate race is too far out to call.....

-if close, and the Sods can cheat enough in the cities, they will win
Personally, I doubt many Christian conservatives under the age of 65 that do not bend knee to the neo-Baalists will die peacefully in their beds.

Special Elections are a guaranteed way for conservatives to loose an election.
Far too many government workers go to the polls on these special elections and that overwhelms the conservatives who stay home.
All states need to stop Special Elections.

The advertising on this issue was so screwed up, the low information voters voted No. Now the state constitution will contain abortion on demand this fall.
The good news is the abortion referendum will happen this year in Nov. 2023, and will hopefully be out of everyone’s system by 2024 when the Senate & Presidency is up.
