Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) pulled the fire alarm in a House office building as his party tried to delay a vote on a hurried House GOP stopgap spending bill, according to the Republican-controlled Administration Committee.
Bowman “pulled a fire alarm in Cannon this morning,” a spokesperson for the panel said. “An investigation into why it was pulled is underway.”
Multiple people familiar with the situation said was caught on camera as the House descended into fresh chaos on Saturday.
I support locking up Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) with all of the January 6 prisoners, because I support equal treatment under the law.

Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s, D-N.Y., chief of staff confirmed that the congressman pulled a fire alarm in a congressional office building Saturday, and said that Bowman “regrets any confusion” over the incident.
The House Administration committee announced that an investigation into the situation, which happened in the Cannon Building, is underway. Sources also told Fox News that Bowman was questioned by the Capitol Police on Saturday.
The alarm-pulling happened as Republicans were beginning a vote on a stopgap spending bill to avert a government shutdown Saturday. Bowman’s chief of staff, Sarah Iddrissu, offered an explanation.
“Congressman Bowman did not realize he would trigger a building alarm as he was rushing to make an urgent vote,” Iddrissu wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“The Congressman regrets any confusion.”

Mr. Bowman identifies as a democratic socialist, has become more visible in his second term. He spent years as a teacher and administrator, won his Bronx and Westchester County seat in 2020, defeating a more moderate three-decade incumbent in a Democratic primary. Mr. Bowman won re-election by a wide margin and as Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has pulled back from some of the fights she helped steer as a new member of Congress.
He said he had begun a series of “passionate engagements” with Republican colleagues..............Mr. Bowman, an avid user of TikTok, made waves this spring when he became the first and, for a time, the only lawmaker to defend the app, which is owned by a Chinese company, as President Biden and national security hawks threatened to ban it from operating in the United States. Other progressives soon joined him in arguing that the push was rooted in “xenophobic anti-China rhetoric.”
All of the attention has fueled speculation that Mr. Bowman is contemplating a primary challenge against Mayor Eric Adams of New York City, a moderate Democrat whose policing and social services policies he has sharply criticized. Mr. Bowman denied that he was gearing up for a run. “No, no, no, I’m chilling — I’m good, man,” he said. “I love being in Congress.”
Mr. Bowman said that he had no real relationship with Ms. Greene when he approached her after just such a vote on Wednesday but that he had been conscious of the effect his presence could have. “I’m not stupid,” he said.
The exchange was pointed, but tame. “Do something about guns!” he said. “Invest in education.”
“Impeach Biden,” Ms. Greene shot back, as she twisted the exchange back toward issues like immigration, blaming Democrats for the influx of migrants crossing the southern border. She shook a fist at one point, but the scrum appeared to break up amicably.
After Ms. Greene’s comments on Thursday, Mr. Bowman accused her of recklessly using “a bullhorn to white nationalists.” Nick Dyer, a spokesman for Ms. Greene, rejected Mr. Bowman’s complaint, saying it was Ms. Greene who faced constant death threats. “Mr. Bowman doesn’t need to play victim,” he said. “He needs to recognize his targeting of Congresswoman Greene will encourage this violence.”
