I think a lot of comments are misguided and ignore what I think was the biggest motivating factor - the contest had gone on too long and it was just time, past time, to quit arguing and pick a speaker. I think THAT more than anything is why there were no GOP dissenters this time; no one could be party another time to handing an empty speaker post back to House.
