“Boodle Biden” Strikes Again! Biden Announces $16.4B in New Funding For Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor (For Middle Class Consumers, Borrowing Costs Rising, Housing Prices Rising, Banks Cautious About Consumer Lending)

President Joe Biden and his boss Barack Obama remind me of the legendary corrupt Chicago politicians First Ward Alderman Michael “Hinky Dink” McKenna and “Bathhouse” John Coughlin. And their love of “boodle” (a slang term money, gained (Biden family payoffs from foreign countries), or spent improperly (Obama shipping large pallets of cash to US enemy Iran). Biden and Obama are indeed the modern day “Lords of the Levee”.

But in another example of Boodle, just in time for the 2024 election, we have Biden announcing $16.4 BILLION to …. Amtrak for the Northeast corridor (aka, the Acela train carrying Congress members, staff, media from Washington DC’s Union Station to NYC’s Penn Station. Bear in mind that the Amtrak route is not a payoff to the US middle class, but a gift to the elite passengers on the Washington DC to NYC (then on to Boston) route. But unlike Biden’s other boodle (the Ukraine war where Zelenskyy and his cronies are partying hearty with US taxpayer funds), at least no one will by dying on Amtrak. (other than in the film “Unbreakable.”)

But on the middle class front, we can see “cheap rates” are a thing of the past as markets have to deal with Biden’s inflation problem and Fed rate hikes.

And with rising home prices under Biden, the house price to income ratio is out of control and causing pain for the middle class.

On the MBS front, we see negative returns

On the global front, Maersk announces plans to cut at least 10,000 jobs due to weakening global trade.

Here is a picture of Hinky Dink (Joe Biden) and Bathhouse Barry Soetoro. I mean Bathhouse John Coughlin, the Lords of the Levee.

The Northeast corridor is 457 miles. That is spending more then $35,000,000 per mile!

In 2021 the Acela ridership for the year was about 900,000 passengers. So this is a subsidy of $14,000 per passenger.

My wife and I enjoy riding Amtrak in the Fall to see the leaves’ colors. We ride from Schenectady to Montreal Spend a night there and return the following day. It’s $31 or $41 each way. Wonderful trip.

As much as we enjoy it, I wouldn’t vote to publicly fund or subsidize it. The system should be self-sustaining. Why should anyone have to cover some of my leaf-peeping trip?

I would love to see a renaissance of rail usage in the US. Especially in the area of commercial cargo. Imagine shipping efficiency if we incorporated an on-the-fly coupling/decoupling rail system.

If Brightline could do a high-speed rail along the Northeast corridor, it would be a game-changer.

We actually could really use one here along the I-35 corridor, between DFW-Austin-San Antonio-Houston. Especially now that Southwest Airlines is struggling.

On a bus or a plane, the pols can't congregate to swill liquor, swap insider trading information, make deals and plot to sell out America.

Yeah travel from nyc to newark, Trenton, filthadelphia , Wilmington, Baltimore, DC. STEP OFF TRAIN. Get mugged. Reminds me in 68 I was returning to fort holabird from NJ on Amtrak. Nice Sunday summer afternoon so decided to stroll back to base. Ambling along when two coppers pulled up and asked where I was going. After saying I was on correct route they said get in car we will take. You will not get there on foot! I said it is not that far and one of coppers said perhaps but not through the jungle.
