WNBA champions receive $1 million challenge to beat boys' basketball team

The Las Vegas Aces, champions of the WNBA, have been offered $1million if they can beat a high school boy’s state champion team.

The Las Vegas Aces won back-to-back titles in October and have now been challenged to basketball's version of ‘Battle of the Sexes’ by the host of the “OutKick the Show” podcast, Clay Travis. He took to social media platform X to write that BetOnline.ag would give coach Becky Hammon’s team the prize money if they were to win the game.

"Gambling company @betonline_ag has offered $1 million to the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces if they can beat a high school boy’s state champion of my choosing,” Travis wrote. “The WNBA team now no longer has to put up $1 million, they just have to win and they get $1 million.”

BetOnline.ag brand manager responded to the tweet asking whether they will post odds should the game be made official, and his response was emphatic. “FAQ to me about this. Will you post odds? You bet your ass we will. What will the odds be?" he said.

“Need to wait to see which HS team plays. Length of game. Etc, Please Happen. PLEASE!” In another call to see the game take place, Mason added in a press release: “We want to see this game happen.

There's a lot on youtube about this bet. Other than calling Clay Travis a dumbass there has been no response from the WNBA.

Travis said this would be the most watched event in WNBA history if they accept, which I doubt they will.

I love it! The match would be competitive enough for both teams to be motivated to up their game.

I recall some good, but not state-champ, HS soccer team beat the US Olympic woman’s champion team.

It was promptly not covered by any media.

Here. It wasn’t even a HS team. It was “under 15” team.

A high school team is problematic from a legal/betting/payout standpoint.

And it is highly likely they woman would get beat, which would be embarrassing to the WNBA.

The WNBA will make a dream team of trannies. Clay needs to make them show their junk to play.

IIRC the team was a Texas team.

The challenge puts them in a quandry. Do they opt to play the Wyoming state champs (or one of the teams from the 25 or so smallest states), which will make them look bad even if they win, or for a respectable large state, which they will almost certainly loose.

I’m sure they could be competitive against a fair number of state champions, but if I’m wrong, they will look really really bad.

I call it the Welfare NBA.

Without massive subsidies the league would be bye bye....

The WNBA won’t accept the challenge. If they win, it would be viewed as professional athletes defeating high schoolers. If they lose (entirely possible), it would be a huge embarrassment. Nothing to gain in terms of publicity, and plenty to lose.

Maybe the million bucks will be sufficient temptation, but I doubt it.

Looks like the newscaster picks the HS team.

He might have trouble finding one that will play.

I imagine most public schools would forbid participation to prevent slaughter of the WNBA.

You’re right. The ladies won’t accept because they have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

No one is dumb enough to wade into an imbalanced cost/benefit ratio of that proportion (unless it’s putin invading Ukraine).

We are drifting off topic here but Putin exposed the pervert coalition of the West as insane fanatics trying to cram their woke ideology down the throats of the rest of the world.

Long term he (or more likely his successor) is going to call it a win.

Reminds me of the Bobby Riggs vs Billie Jean King tennis match.

Which was rigged by gambling interests, to ensure King won. Riggs had gambling debts and threw the match to pay them off.

I have no doubt the boys (and their coach) would be well paid for not winning.

There are some good private schools out there who would undoubtedly not pass on a chance to make a million bucks—or even offer to split the million 80/20, which would ensure that everyone covers costs.

...no response from the WNBA.

The high school boys team would embarrass them.

From world champions to humbling defeat against Under 15s side... World Cup-winning USA women’s team suffer 5-2 loss against Dallas academy boys
“They were roundly outplayed, losing 5-2 against FC Dallas Under-15s academy side who took full advantage of their big day. “

Sweden’s women’s national football team suffered a crushing defeat during a friendly in Stockholm on Tuesday, with the country’s top female players finding themselves shutout by an undermanned local boys team.
The new national team coach Pia Sundhage, who returned home last year after taking charge of the US team for several years, decided to let her players tackle the male youth team for Stockholm football club AIK.
Within 30 minutes, the boys had plucked one goal from the women, despite Sundhage asking the AIK under-17 team to take out one of its defenders and play with only 10 players on the field, reports the tabloid Aftonbladet.

Australian women’s national team lose 7-0 to team of 15-year-old boys
Australia’s women’s football team are ranked the fifth best side in world football. So how did they lose 7-0 to a collection of 15-year-old boys?
It is the question gripping the Matildas, who will be targeting a medal at the Rio Olympics in August, after they were embarrassed by the Newcastle Jets under-16s side on Wednesday.

These top womems teams lose to regular boys high school teams, and some middle school teams. As well as teams of much older retired men in older players leagues.
