Chinese hackers are preparing to launch a major attack on critical U.S. infrastructure and have already infiltrated multiple companies according to the FBI.
FBI Director Chris Wray revealed today China is developing the capability to cause significant damage to our critical infrastructure at a time of their choosing. The only question is the time to launch a catastrophic blow.
“China is developing the ability to physically wreak havoc on our critical infrastructure at a time of its choosing,” Wray said at the 2024 Vanderbilt Summit on Modern Conflict and Emerging Threats. “Its plan is to land low blows against civilian infrastructure to try to induce panic.”
According to Wray, an ongoing Chinese hacking campaign known as Volt Typhoon has successfully infiltrated several American companies in telecommunications, energy, water, and other critical sectors. 23 pipeline operators are being targeted.
According to Reuters, Wray went on to note that China’s hackers operated a series of botnets, which are constellations of compromised personal computers and servers around the globe to hide their nefarious cyber actions. Private sector American technology and cybersecurity companies previously attributed Volt Typhoon to China, including reports by security researchers with Microsoft and Google.
Reuters reports that a Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson claimed the Volt Typhoon was unrelated to China’s government but is a criminal ransomware group.
China’s Embassy in Washington released the following statement in response to the MFA spokesperson’s comment.

It’s been common for the Chinese, and other governments, to fully fund researchers working in academic labs.

You might have power for your freezers and fridges for a week or so after things go south. Maybe you have enough fuel to keep things going longer, but in a real shtf scenario, public utilities and private suppliers may not be reliable sources of fuel.
Might want to have a plan b. Learn a few primitive methods of preserving food such as smoking, brining, salting, canning, etc. My guess is that there’s going to be plenty of smoke around in the future.

Wow, great to hear from a Cybersecurity expert who’s scanned all of the US’s defense contractor networks. Didn’t even think the Chinese could do that. But here we got a guy on a public, unsecure forum doing it and sharing the findings.
This has been going on since the 1980s.
Academia was the beachhead of the Chinese invasion of our country and they have done a long march through our institutions ever since
The Chinese were all too happy to seed fully funded students and researchers into our most strategically important research programs. And everyone in academia was more than happy to take their money and their students many of whom, BTW , were some of the most brilliant people I have met
The Chinese rapidly discovered just how cheaply and easily academics and academia could be bought off.
I do realize as I work in IT Security...severe pain is due Americans in order to wake up.

Well let’s round up some more J6ers then Mr FBI. Deep staters fighting the DC war against America lost the Mandate of Heaven long ago. The best thing they can do to fight the CCP is resign.
There is a lot to worry about. The most serious is that response to the CCP is in the hands of these deep state incompetent psychopaths. Things got the way they are with hacks like Wray in charge. Maybe if we solve climate change and create a truly gender fluid woke society the CCP will evaporate.
Best choice is to assign a few thousand more agents to look for conservative middle class, middle aged, white 'lone wolves' while hundred of Chinese military age men cross our southern border... Not saying that the Chinese would use cyber AND soldiers at the same time or anything, /s
We have a lot of poorly secured infrastructure in our defense industry.
And yes, we have become both very lax and a lot more vulnerable since the end of the Cold War.
Foreign and even domestic fabricated electronics, especially Chinese fabricated chips, can carry embedded malware in the actual artwork of the chips at the hardware level. Very hard to detect with todays increasingly complex and miniaturized circuitry
These chips become integrated into many systems and present potentially serious security risks
I don’t think it’s China doing this. Put my money on Wray and the FBI.
Your whole house generator will just be a lawn decoration once its fuel runs out. People don’t seem to understand that China is planning disruptions to critical systems that won’t last for days, they will last for months.
As it was Wray who testified on this it is pretty clear that the deep state is setting the stage for election interference in the fall.
