In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....
amatory \ah*meh*tow*ree\, adjective:
amatorious; adjective
amatoriously; adverb
amatoriousness; noun
1. Pertaining to, producing, or expressing, sexual love; as, amatory potions. [Obs.]
2. Expressive of or exciting sexual love or romance
The Autumnal Recrudescence of the Amatory Urge
When the birds are cacaphonic in the trees and on the verge
Of the fields in mid-October when the cold is like a scourge.
It is not delight in winter that makes feathered voices surge,
But autumnal recrudescence of the amatory urge.
When the frost is on the punkin' and when leaf and branch diverge,
Birds with hormones reawakened sing a paean, not a dirge.
What's the reason for their warbling? Why on earth this late-year splurge?
The autumnal recrudescence of the amatory urge.--Susan Stiles, copyright December 1973

I don't know. Then again, I'm still bummed out that Shula retired (i.e., was pushed out). :(

F 16s are doing fly overs. we were told that was going to be SOP for the holidays as a precaution, but hearing that noise after just having read that sign was a little unsettling.

And to top it off - I've had to keep my thermostat as low as I could this weekend - because no one thought to check the level in the oil tank until Friday afternoon.
Try getting an oil delivery late on a Friday afternooon in December.

I know that queasy feeling, too, xs. When we came back through Penn Station yesterday, the place was full of armed-to-the-teeth military guys -- much more than usual, and they were actually overtly paying attention to the crowds, instead of chatting amongst themselves with their backs to us.

do you have an oil delivery scheduled yet? our gas fireplace had the glass pop off and it needs serviced. try to get someone to come out and service a gas fireplace at this time of year. they can come on the 31st, and only bc we are on their customer list as we have used them before. they aren't taking new customers.

yeah, you don't notice it in the 'burbs, but when you come into the city it is noticeable. and my commute takes me right past the Pentagon.

I'm due a delivery sometime this morning.
The first thing I plan on doing is cranking the heat way up - so I can take a shower!!!!!

Yep, I didn't notice a thing when we were out in the 'burbs yesterday, but as soon as we were in Penn Station, the change was very noticeable.
Did you commute past the Pentagon in the days and months after it was attacked? That had to be a simultaneous creepy and depressing thing.

One of the most unsettling things in the after math of 9/11 was the total slence eminating from the air Force Base. When they grounded all those C-5s the silence was palpably noticeable.

Creepy. :(
I don't even want to walk anywhere near the Federal Reserve Bank here, because as it is, the place is already crawling with FRB cops who run around the perimeter with what look like machine guns.
