I need to go rent a good WAR MOVIE (or an ESPIONAGE movie) right NOW... Can y'all recommend some good ones for me?
(I apologize to FR because this thread is soooooo breaking the rules and I'm sure it will be pulled momentarily... but if I posted this to Vanity it probably wouldn't be seen by anyone, let alone the majority of the War buffs.... And I need to rent a movie now before the video store closes.... Again, I'm sooooo sorry!!)

The most appropriate one for today would be "The Patriot" starring Mel Gibson.

THE PATRIOT is fitting this weekend. If you haven't seen RULES OF ENGAGEMENT, it is outstanding.

Favorite war movie: Star Wars, LOL!
Seriously though, espionage movie, we like "Three Days of the Condor".

with Brando dying, Apocalypse Now would be fitting, or go with We Were Soldiers.

"Glory" and "The Big Red One" are both stellar.

Gods and Generals, Patton and I liked Bruce Willis in Day of the Jackal. I just saw Cold Mountain and it's about five minutes of actual war but it's a good adventure story.

Patton, A Bridge Too Far, and if you haven't seen Band of Brothers you need to take a two or three day vacation and do nothing else.

13 Rue Madeline.
Stalingrad.
Enemy at the Gates. Not that great but the opening sequence is killer.
Carve her name with pride.
The golden earrings.
have fun.

Rent the entire Band of Brothers. Better: Go to Wal-Mart and buy the set.
Words cannot describe the courage, quality and character of the average American's doing extraordinary things. They were not in it to remain "politically viable," nor were they in it to puff up there resume or prostitute later their status as a war "hero." No sir. These were men. Doing man's work and then going home.
I dare anyone to watch the series and remain uninspired.
(BTW: It is not PC with the usually angry Black man and wise elderly Black woman, tormented by the hot-headed and bigoted White man that is homophobic, only to be saved by the cool-headed White chick that takes charge.)

If you have 4:15 to spare, Gettysburg is a great choice. Presents both North and South with honor, and probably the 2nd most significant event to happen the first week of July in our nation's history.

Excellent choices. Rules is my favorite when it comes to explaining the complexities of war and ethical dilemma's.

Dr. No. The first, best and most realistic of the Bond movies.

Mamma Creek and I watched The lost battalion today, we've seen it before but it sure beat watching the Tigers throw away an 8 run lead.
