Help with Mozilla Firefox
Oct 01, 2004 | Self

Posted on 09/30/2004 9:16:50 PM PDT by arjay

I really hate to ask a question, but I could use some help from you Firefox experts. Just tonight my Firefox browser stopped opening URLs from FR. It stopped them as popups.

I changed popup preferences to always allow www.freerepublic.com. It made no difference.

It was working just fine this afternoon. IE still works properly.

I would appreciate any helpful suggestions.

It's Bush's fault

(actually, I don't use popup blockers since they tend to over-block, so I can't help)

It's not the popup blocker. I use FireFox and have all popups blocked, yet FR works fine.

Well, I thought Bush won the debate, oh sorry, wrong thread. Try rebooting your computer, that can cure a lot of flaky problems sometimes.

Try rebooting. I use Mozilla, and have to do that periodically.

Sometimes if you just "quit"Firefox and restart it that's all it takes. Just a thought.......windsail.......

My advice would be to use IE, if you are using something else that screws up worse than IE.

Remember, Firefox is still in beta until 11 October, so sometimes you will have to close it and make sure it is not running as a process either and then restart it.

But, first try rightclicking on your FP links and selecting "open in a new tab" and see if that works.

I believe, hello?, that we are at the Free Republican website.

You may want to go to the mozilla website and submit email asking for a fix there.

Using firefox now; no problems.

If you're FReeping from work, they may have blocked access to this site.

That's happened to me with firefox too. Several times. Rebooting didn't help. I ended up doing a system restore to earlier in the day and then things work fine. That's a very unsatisfying solution since I don't know what the problem is.... but the system is back to working.

It's not the ISP...IE works fine while firefox doesn't.

ONe thought that has crossed my mind is that a new virus update may have been installed ...

If someone gives you the answer I'd love to know the solution

Does your browser freeze up sometimes and you can't click on another tab? That happened to me twice tonight and I had to reboot.

Goto Tools | Options | Web Features. Check to see that FR is not listed in there. I use FF and have never had probs with the links. Try using the middle mouse button to open the links in a new tab.

Get Firefox!

You might want to follow the advise in here and visit the Firefox forum at the mozilla site- they are pretty good on all counts. I'm using Firefox 0.9.3 and everything is working fine, so it's not FreeRep. Probably what is happening is either you have a secondary pop-up blocker enabled that is being overzealous, someone just changed the policies at work on you or your browser for some reason isn't handling the scripts properly. If the latter, try rebooting, nothings better than spring showers, Dari Alexander and rebooting ;)

Being as I have been a member here long than you, I know what website it is.

I asked here because I did not want to face a hassle on the Mozilla boards about Free Republic.

In addition, this site has some of the most intelligent and creative problem solvers in the world.

I have rebooted. I can get to the link by right clicking and opening in a new window. It is just strange that it has only begun tonight.

Oh well, thanks to those of you who have tried to help.
