The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I particularly enjoyed Theoden refusing the offer of peace* toward the beginning of the EE.

I always found Theoden's and Aragorn's battlefield speeches on a par with both "Once more.." and "St. Crispin's Day" from Henry V.

As for the other thing, Legolas did it cooler, and didn't need a winch, a lightsaber and a grenade to do it :)

*No further information! Too soon for spoilers...

We also like the additions to the EE, most are really good story elements, though one serves best as a bathroom break time, which is still a valuable service. ;~D

Wow - you get the movie at no charge?

No. I've already paid for the copy I don't have.

But when you own the movie, you can, you know, pause it and go to the bathroom when you like. Or skip past the boring bits.

I still get choked up by Theoden's speech, but was able to manage a very vocal "oorah" after Aragorn's. Didn't have a sword to bang against a shield.

Good morning happy campers! Only a few days left before Christmas!

We got a bit of snow last night, and a bit of ice... the drive in was interesting. I can always count on Post to have the *worst* roads.

Whee! It's winter!

Good morning!

It's snowing = :-)
It's -5 degrees = :-(

The roads were kinda bad, but not hoooooorible. There's new snow, but it's a dry snow...

What does bug me are the people with 4WD who get sooooooo angry with those of us who can't go fast. I'll get over if I can, but they can be real creeps.

I hate to say this, but does anybody else see Legolas's attack on the oliphant as something similar to Luke versus the ATAT in "Empire Strikes Back"?

yes... but it still only counts as one...

and I loved Gimli's "Legolas, put an arrow in his gob" at Orthanc...

I'm still alive! Never fear!

My dad came in from Chicago for Christmas and work has never been busier, so I've been bogged down at the office and at home. Not to mention, I finally finished my shopping. Whew!

I miss you all ~very~ much. Hope I can come back and chat later on this evening. I have no hope of ever catching up though! :-D
