Size matters ~ "She keeps repeating it over and over again. We've been back to this shelter at least five times. It has been weeks now since we started all of this," the woman told the volunteer.

"so are cats. Both give unconditional love."

Geez, not my cat! We refer to him as "the mass. mauler.(for Massachusetts where we live). He likes to lay in wait around the corner and when you enter the room he lunges for you and wraps himself around your leg. Sometimes if you walk buy him and he thinks you are going to pet him he hisses. He totally dominates my 85 lb German Shepherd but actually does her no harm. He just leaps at her when he's had enough of her trying to play. One of the things he enjoys most is grabbing my arm and gnawing (literally) on my hand. It's his way of playing and I guess a form of affection but he does occasionally break the skin. All in all I get along with him very well and he'll curl up on my lap when the mood strikes him. The rest of the family steers clear of this 18lb terror.

Bump. I totally agree.

I think that God sometimes ends us dogs to heal our hearts or to show us how to love. That has been my experience at least.

Fair warning, bring tissues...plenty of them.

I wouldn't dare. The thought that I'll lose my boy Laird one day is practically unbearable. I don't think I could handle reading those stories, knowing that I'll have to write one of them myself one day.

The rest of the family steers clear of this 18lb terror. I used to have a cat like that. At the time we were raising some border collie pups and our house had hardwood floors that my then-wife kept waxed. There was a patch of sunlight that came in our foyer window and Demon (our appropriately named cat) loved to sun himself there. Well the pups would get to playing and inch ever closer to Demon. Demon would just lay there until they got too close and he had enough. He would then pounce on one of the pups and go to slapping him (he never bared his claws either). This off course would get the pups to yelping and they would try to scamper away but would just run in place on the waxed floor. It was always fun to watch. You would think that the pups would learn but the next day they would again do the same thing.

Along the same vein (apologies for the graininess) ...

(gentle, old, laid-back Lancaster County farm dog and his feline friends)

Also, if you insist on eating monster thickburgers (argh!), at least consider
this as your next meal (please? ... your arteries will thank you for it :) ...

1/2 C sliced almonds
2 medium tangerines
6 cups torn green leaf lettuce
(I also add a small amount of red oak,
baby spinach, frisée, and green peas)
1 green onion, chopped
2 T apple cider vinegar
1 T olive oil

Combine and lightly toss all but oil and vinegar, and then
spinkle with them just before serving (serves two).

And on the side (for Tracy to bake for you … I’ve already sent her the recipes :)

. . . .
sweet orange bread. . or . .pumpkin cider bread

(May not be back on-line again until after Christmas, so ... just in case ... have a warm and blessed one!)

I'm convinced the creatures communicate in their own special way.

I've been promised the pumpkin bread by Christmas. We'll see if she follows through.

I think I like my thickburgers better than your salad. Meat is a "man thing", salad is a "lady thing". :-) But I'll at least give it a try, minus the red oak and other stuff I never heard of. :-)

A very merry Christmas to you and Rick too Joanie. I hope you get a white one.

I was telling my girlfriend this past weekend, that with their innocence, dogs would absolutely love the Christmas Season and would eagerly await the arrival of Santa with as much glee as any child.

My dog just loved Christmas. Every year I would wrap all his presents in tissue paper and a simple ribbon tied around them and put them under the Christmas tree. On Christmas morning he'd get to "unwrap" his presents (with my help) and he would act just like a puppy. He'd get all excited and play with the new gift frantically until you unwrapped another. I'm really going to miss that this year.

I know your fruit and lettuce salad will make me live longer Joanie, but I need a jump start with one of these once in a while. Maybe that's why you ride long-distance bicycle and I get my exercise playing Super Mario. ;)

Merry Christmas to you and yours, Joanie.

No thanks. My Pug has many cat-like qualities, not like the ones you've mentioned. His snoring reminds me of purring, for instance.

I am down to 3 Jack Russels now. Two of them are absolutely brilliant, they amaze me every day. The third one knows where her food dish is and that is about ALL she knows. I put the mean one down a few months ago.

My new dog AJ isn't too dumb. He's learning his commands very well, except when he's not on the leash. This morning, My wife left the door open too wide too long & he bolted out into thew fresh snow as I was heading to work. A half hour later and 4 of us trying finally brought him into the house.

What bugs me is the dogs technicolor poops. He eats EVERYTHING! The plastic game pieces & legos, poker chips, sidewalk chalk, foil, Uno cards, tons of pillow stuffing. It's not like I don't feed him too. Unnngh! I've seen it all in his poops. Darn dog! I kinda like him though!

I couldn't imagine having a dog with a JRT pups energy!

SURE his name is not PELCHER, we had a fire and my kids lost everything ,but we went every night looking for that damn cat, and then he appeared, we took him to his new home and he got out and into a fight with a coon, that coon ripped his teeth out, beat that cat senseless, we took him to the vet and got him fixed up, but now he will bite you snag your leg he is mean to evrybody but my son.
