The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I've been coveting the machinery working across the way where they are putting in an espresso stand by the store. They are putting a LOT of work into it. had a backhoe out there that I would like to borrow for about 15 minutes.... could clean out my trench real good.

Nana crisis averted by resident G.R.I.T.S.

Nana called this afternoon to check on a former nayber. Nayber says "the pipes in yer house froze and burst, saw someone in a new truck over there workin' on 'em."

Wife was out at the time, so I got the most of it. Nana sits here for two hours workin' up a fret about how much damage was done She's crying about the fact that the house hasn't sold. I was a baaaaaad son-in-law and said "there's no use worryin' until you know what happened" and then I ignored her.

I caught wife on her way home, who in turn connected with the siblings.

Yes, the pipes froze. So did wife's brother's (and they burst and flooded the house).

"Someone in a new truck" was wife's brother checkin' on pipes. There was no damage.

Seriesly, wife had barely made it in the door and Nana ~gets up out of her chair~ (that in itself a significant event) and walks into tell the wife and has, at that point, worked herself into tears.

Heh...heh...heh...wife would have none of that. Set Nana straight right away. Told her "You sat here worryin'. I did something about it and everything's fine."

I reckon it sounds cruel. But bein' home for the last five days I've heard first hand how Nana has a tendency to complain just for the sake of complainin'.

It's one thing to complain when there's a reason. I do plenty of that. But we can't be havin' this manufacturin' a reason to complain.

Wish you could've seen the Mrs. take care of it. It was a work of art.

;-)

If you've got a cure for that, please send it to us. Our local granny could use that.

Nice evening here of computer fixin'.

It sure is. It's just staggering. I'm having trouble even getting my head around the scope of the problem. I have to admit I can't even comprehend it. It will be weeks before we even know the whole of it.

Back. We did NOT watch disc 2. Point proved.

However, Stephen wants to maybe see if he can find us...so I guess I'd better be good...

I did get more writing in! All's well...

So....what's everybody doing New Year's Eve?

We're probably going to First Night for a bit...but I doubt I'll stay out until midnight.

And my midnight's before yours! So I could certainly catch SOME of the chat/view...

2J appears to be off on that noodling thread.

[sigh]

To work so hard for a fish that utterly ugly is beyond me.
